Travel, REI-Style
When you join our guides and fellow travelers on an REI Adventure, you place yourself with people who seek the same things: The desire to dive into a place with the 20/20 perspective of a local. To experience the true culture, history and natural beauty of a place. To seize the adventure that’s just waiting to be discovered.
At REI Adventures, we began on that same quest in 1987, leading our first active travelers around the globe. Every year since then we’ve helped travelers like you realize their dreams. So lace up your boots, and join us on the adventure of your life.
Travel-Savvy Staff
Every REI Adventures journey begins with one of our travel-savvy, behind-the-scenes folks. When you call, you’ll get first-hand knowledge about your trip from someone who’s been there. Not only will we tell you what to bring and how to prepare for your adventure, we’ll also share our enthusiasm for the destination and the activities you’ll be doing.
Our REI Adventures staff handles every detail for you, from route planning to bike sizing to choosing an amazing local guide for your trip. You can trust our experience!
Guides Worth Following
To know a place like the back of your hand is a beautiful thing. Travel with us, and you've got friends in the most intriguing places. You'll plunge headfirst into a region with access only a resident guide can offer. Suddenly, neighbors open their homes for lunch. Regional dialects are demystified. "Locals' trails" are yours to explore.
Our guides are photographers and PhDs, Sherpas and chefs, walking GPS's and talking tour books. They know that places reveal their character through details large and small, and our itineraries place those details directly in your path. Carefully designed days provide a seamless blend of planned activity and freedom, allowing you time to find your own serendipitous travel moments. Follow our guides, and let them lead you to the best places through less-traveled routes, plus to a host of sights you’ll never find in any guidebook.
Trips for Every Activity Level
We have trips to match all skill levels, from expert to relaxed. Activities include kayaking, mountaineering, hiking, cycling, trekking and adventure cruising. Use the following guidelines to select a level of activity that’s best for you.

Food to Write Home About
On an REI Adventure, you'll build up a hearty appetite. Fortunately, our guides see to it you're fueled up in a deliciously memorable fashion. The fresh local cuisine is a great way to absorb a country's culture, while inspiring you with its local flavor. Whether it's a charming bistro on a French cycling route or a hearty campfire feast in the Grand Canyon, we go beyond the call of duty at mealtimes. We happily accommodate special dietary requests too, e.g. vegetarian or food allergies.
Home Sweet Hacienda
When it comes to lodging, we've selected some wonderfully rustic, sometimes luxurious and always comfortable options for resting your weary head. On any given night, you may bunk in a castle, a sheep station, a beachfront cabana, or under the stars in a comfy tent. Whatever the case, you'll find yourself in an unforgettable spot off the tourist track with all your needs met.
Solo Travelers Welcome
Many of our trip participants travel solo—but not for long. They soon find themselves part of a group of new friends.

Trips for the Time-Challenged
Got the spirit of adventure, but not loads of time? REI Adventures
Weekend Getaways may be just the thing! Ranging in length from two to four days, these trips let you enjoy the outdoors in some truly awesome places, meet like-minded outdoor enthusiasts, and polish your skills (or learn some new ones).
Impacting Lives, Not the Earth
Sure, our trips are insanely fun, but they’ll make you feel good in other ways, too. For starters, all REI trips are CO2 neutral. That’s a fancy name for a pretty cool concept: REI purchases Green Tags (AKA Renewable Energy Certificates) to offset the carbon footprint of our Adventures trips, including air travel. It’s one way to help protect the places we love for future generations to enjoy. And responsibility doesn’t end there. Since our beginning, we’ve strived to contribute to the communities we visit. To help economies thrive, we patronize local businesses, from lodging to guides to restaurants. We create meaningful cultural exchanges with each region’s people, and we treat their cultures and places with respect. It’snot only the right thing to do, it makes each adventure truly authentic.
Quality Outdoor Gear and Expertise, Since 1938
When you book a trip with REI Adventures you’re backing up your travel experience with a company of dedicated outdoor enthusiasts and gear experts. REI has been in business since 1938 when a group of Pacific Northwest mountain climbers went in search of the perfect ice axe from Europe. Their legacy of quality gear and expertise lives on in our stores and employees across the country.
