REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.), a national retailer of quality outdoor gear and apparel, today announced 2010 sales of $1.66 billion, up 14 percent from $1.46 billion the previous year. Operating income for the year was a record $115.4 million, an increase of 15 percent over $100.6 million in 2009. Net income in 2010 was $30.2 million, up 1.4 percent from $29.8 million in the previous year. The company’s direct sales channel, which includes online and catalog sales, grew by 22.9 percent. Comp store sales grew by 8.1 percent, up from negative 3.5 percent in 2009.

February 11, 2009 — Outdoor retailer Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), the nation's largest consumer cooperative, today announced 2008 sales of $1.4 billion, an increase of 6.9 percent from the previous year. Reflecting the challenging economic environment, the co-op's operating income for 2008 decreased to $73.6 million, down 31 percent from $106.5 million in the prior year. Net income of $14.5 million was down 65 percent from $41.4 million in 2007. The company's direct sales channel, which includes online and catalog sales, grew by 14.2 percent while comp store sales increased by 0.3 percent in 2008.
