Every year since 1998, FORTUNE magazine has saluted REI as one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For” in the country. This recognition is especially meaningful because it’s largely based on anonymous employee feedback provided to the Great Place to Work ® Institute. Take it from Sally Jewell, REI’s president and CEO:
"Every day, our employees come to work and share their unwavering love of the outdoors and help others experience the wonders of nature. That’s what makes REI a great place to work and what has earned us this prestigious honor, year after year."
FORTUNE works with the Great Place to Work® Institute, a global research and consulting firm, to survey randomly selected employees of each organization. Two-thirds of the ranking is based on the Institute’s Trust Index survey, which asks employees their attitudes on management’s credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on our responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit, which includes questions about pay and benefit programs, hiring, communication.

REI is the highest-rated retailer on Glassdoor’s Top 50 Best Places to Work list for 2013, through its Employees’ Choice Awards.
The Employees’ Choice Awards are determined by Glassdoor’s anonymous company survey. Now in its fifth year, the survey asks employees to rate their satisfaction with the company overall, and key workplace factors like career opportunities, compensation and benefits, work/life balance, senior management, as well as culture and values.
The list is compiled using Glassdoor’s proprietary algorithm, and the overall ranking determined according to each company’s overall Glassdoor rating.
