Somewhat disappointed
On the one hand, it fits nicely and is quite comfy and warm given the weight. However, after about a month of wearing it off an on the material already seems a bit worn out and is pilling all over. Even though it's a month old the bulk of the outer fabric looks more worn than my old Arc'teryx hoodie which is about ten years old (and also polartec material). Hopefully it's just cosmetic, but I have my doubts.
The perfect layer
I had my eye on this fleece for a long time but had a hard time justifying the price. It's just a fleece, right? Finally I got lucky and received it as a gift. As I had hoped, it's much more than just a fleece. It's like a perfect second skin, and I've barely taken it off. Pros: It's super comfortable. The fit is close to the body but not tight, and somehow has a ton of features that Patagonia just nailed. The pocket is fairly generous and can easily fit a phone, the thumb loops are comfortable when you need them, the zip is really long and vents very well and the sleeves fit close but not too tight (you can pull them up on your forearms if needed and the sleeves won't slip back down). The biggest feature to me is the hood, because it significantly boosts the warmth and utility of the fleece. I haven't tried fitting it under a helmet, but it fits close to the head and is clearly designed for that purpose. I was also able to pull it over a trucker hat and it was comfortable. The grid pattern won't keep the rain or wind off of you, but it breathes well and layered under a shell with the hood up it was plenty warm for me down to the mid 30s. I haven't sweated hard in this yet, so cannot speak to the funk factor. Lastly, the underwater blue color is very cool and gets lots of compliments. Cons: Although I was gifted this fleece, the price is kind of insane. Patagonia may have perfected the fleece here, but come on...even the perfect fleece is just fleece. I've noticed some pilling in the highest friction areas: forearms, around the pocket zipper. The pilling was easily taken care off with a fabric razor, but still mildly annoying. So I knocked off a star for these things combined. Bottom line: This will be your new favorite piece of gear, and you'll forget about the price tag.
Warm and breathable
Great for any type of outdoor activity in sub-comfortable temperature. Especially nice for those who have a long torso, the sleeves and length are accommodating to lurpy folks like myself
