Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Keeper I bought the switch 10 because I use Goal Zero products often. I keep comparing the switch 10 to my old switch 8 which I've used and recharged hundreds of times. The 10 is a bit smaller and has the mini LED light built in which is nice, but I have the outstanding flashlight attachment for the 8 while one is not yet available separately for the 10. The fan attachment works on both, they both appear to charge USB gear at the same rate, and both charge from the Nomad 7 and 3.5 solar panels. Therefore, functionally the 8 is more useful than the 10 so I keep the 8 with me daily. The attached pics show the story. Switch 8 on top in first two pics, switch 8 in third pic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not a standard 18650 battery I love my Goal Zero gear. That's why I was excited to see they made a field portable battery that took 18650s. They however are not your standard 18650 batteries that have one positive and one negative side. The one Goal Zero uses has positive and negative terminals on both sides. One outer ring and one inner. It will not work with nor charge a standard 18650 battery. That is my only gripe with this product. Other than that Goal Zero makes some quality gear that holds up pretty well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it, if only more durable I am on my 3rd switch 10. The first stopped charging after about 3 months and the 2nd most recently broke when the top of the unit came free of the main body of the unit. However, it were not for the durability issues I have had with the unit, it would be an easy 5 starts, 6 if they had them. I have taken it on a week long trip to Isle Royale and it provided enough juice to keep my phone charged with light usage. The best features are the super bright flashlight and fan. I was skeptical of the fan at first, but it is the best thing for getting those stubborn damp camp fires going in the backwoods. IT is also a God send on the hot and humid summer nights in the Midwest. I bought a 1 Meter USB extension to bring along both for easier charging and it is super handy to run through a gear loop in your tent and put the fan on one end and the switch on the other. It provides just the right amount of air movement to sleep comfortably. The flashlight is super bright for such a small unit and half the time I just keep the unit near me in my tent for the small light in the body for the evening potty breaks. Be aware, however, I just recently got a replacement for mi first generation that was part of the Switch 10 Kit and the Micro USB cable that came with it is not the nice screw on threaded cable you see in the pictures, it just a cheap non-branded cable. A shame, as so many of us have been clamoring for a Apple Lightning cable for years. Amazon just released their second generation of generic lighting cables and Goal Zero has yet to make one. Overall a great little unit if a few flaws that will hopefully be worked out in the future. Goal Zero makes great productions and their customer service is top notch. Even if it seems I have to call them quite a bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from flexible functional Another quality flexible GZ product. I bought it with the flash light attachment - highly recommend that. The power pack charged my iPhone 6S Plus, no problem. the built-in small LED light is handy. I travel with the flashlight head. That turns the power pack into a flashlight, saving some weight overall by combining the two into one. plus the flashlight head can be powered independently from any usb input.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Charger with a light I ended up returning this and went with the Black Diamond answer to this solution. The goal zero product is a charger with a light. The Black Diamond Ember is more like a flashlight that is a charger. It also has a slight IPX rating. Those things appealed to me more. HOWEVER, the GZ has a better battery capacity and more advanced electronics to manage the power. So it just depends on what is more important to you. I wasn't comfortable with the exposed USB ports considering how I mistreat gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best modular system Charges phone fast 1.5a Supplement light ... stand upright and perform task handsfree w/o headlamp remaining power gauge twist metal collar to keep accessories from pop out and damaging usb connection Metal body - main Fan, Flashlight (Focusable), and micro-USB great Bi-contacts - doesn't matter which side u put it in. Brought the kit ... now buying a second Switch 10. So I can charge one while using the other one (fan) Fan was great during the multiple heatwave heat wave. Used it on several BBQs and one campfire ... bellow effect. Don't need to lug a charcoal chimney ... when I do small wad of paper, 5 mins later, a jet of flame shooting out of the charcoal chimney! Tilt and aim the fan at the bottom!!! Goal Zero, do your research, modular, too many other ways to use the products, the mini-lantern is using the same battery!!! getting it now! Great for urban and backpacking! I'm a gadget, flashlight, gear freak.

Does this have solar charge capabilities on its own or is the solar charging a different product?  Thanks

Asked by: Subietrails
This recharger does not have solar charging capabilities by itself. It gets its charge from a solar panel (sold separately) or from an outlet or USB charge.

Is this a standard 18650 lithium battery? Can one be used to replace the stock one when it wears out?

Asked by: wavebeam
The Switch 10 Portable Recharger is not a standard 18650 lithium battery. It is used as an external battery to charge small electronics via USB, not as a stand alone rechargeable battery.
