Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect kayak for kids I bought this to introduce my 2 nephews to kayaking. Each of them was able to control the boat and get it to go where they wanted within 30 minutes. The cockpit is sized well, and there is plenty of room for them to grow, so they should get several years of use from it. The boat is incredibly light (I can pick it up with 2 fingers), making it easy to transport. The bad news for me is I have to buy a second one now. I recommend a set of flotation bags.

Questions & Answers

Will a 6'3" 210lbs male be comfortable in this kayak? Worried I will not have leg room. If not, could you recommend a kayak on REI's site for me? My price range is $400-650

Asked by: michaelowes43
No, this kayak would be too small for you. I weigh 110 and it's one of the few kayaks small enough to be comfortable for me.

Is this ok kayaking on the ocean near the shore?   -Does it tip over easily? -Will I be able so keep up with a much stronger kayaker in a larger kayak? -I am 5'6 - would my legs be too long? -Are there any other kayaks this light?

This kayak is designed for flat, calm water and not suitable for open water or ocean currents. The ability to keep up with another paddler is reliant to your technique and endurance. We have a selection of touring sea kayaks that can be viewed by opening the following link:

I'm a 5'0" 135 lb female.  I think this kayak will work for me, but would like to sit in one before buying it.  Is it possible to get one sent to a local store (none currently have it).   Thanks

Asked by: Sarah
We are happy to send this boat to your nearest REI but you will have to pay for it before we ship it. Should you not like the boat after it arrives to the store, you are welcome to leave it there and have your bank card credited before you leave the store.

I am a novice kayaker & limit myself to lakes. This is the first kayak I will own. I am 5'/ 120lbs. I've looked at the prodigy xs b/c of it size & weight. Friends are pushing the Oru bay. Big diff in price. Is Prodigy a good choice for now or invest?

Asked by: TravelinGirl
Both the Prodigy XS and the Oru Kayak Beach LT kayaks are a great choice for beginner to intermediate kayakers. The Oru kayak is easier to transport when folded and is more stable on the water thanks to the overall width.

I am 5 foot 4 inches and weigh 105 lbs. I am looking for a light weight kayak primarily for rivers with a class 2 to 3 rapids. Would this work for me?
