Read More I bought this Garmin in store and got home and charged it. When I went to get it sync'd with the Garmin Express boy was I surprised to find out that I supposedly put on 43 miles and over 84,000 steps last year back in June, July and August of 2015. I saw on the account info on it that it had a RMA so I contacted Garmin and found out that there was issues with it and it was supposed to have been sent back to them. Garmin was very nice and sent me a new Vivosmart and I sent the defective one back to them. I was very disappointed that I was sold a defective unit. :( -

Read More Here's my experience with it: This Garmin device starts showing dead/faded pixels at the top and bottom of the display, even just after 4 months of date of purchase. Garmin will replace it the first time - at your own expense - but don't count on them doing that every time it breaks, because it has happened to me again (with the replacement unit). I had to ship mine from the Philippines and pay both outgoing and incoming/importing expenses. It seems this problem happens often and all Garmin can do is replace the device. They won't even acknowledge what's wrong with it. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this product. Think twice too before you buy another Garmin device if you want to avoid the hassle of their customer service. -

Read More I had this great device for all of 12 hours before the syncing issues began. After trying every troubleshooting tip online, contacting Garmin by phone and by e-mail, this still will not sync to my mobile app or upload data to the desktop software. I love the notifications so much, but I've spent nearly as many hours trying to fix this device as the device has spent being functional. Also the app is terrible and unintuitive. -

Read More I have had this tracker for 3 weeks now, and I really like it! How much? I just bought 4 more for family members for Christmas! I was previously a Fitbit user, and here is some background on both the Flex and the Charge: Besides the many build-quality problems that the Fitbit Flex has (detailed below at the bottom of my review), the Flex was also missing features I desired, such as displaying the time and number of steps on the armband. On Thanksgiving weekend I went into REI with the idea of replacing my troubled Flex with a Fitbit Charge, because it had the missing features I wanted and I hoped for a better build quality. When I tried one on at the store, the Surge just looked too big on my wrist: I disliked the look of it, and I disliked the feel of it. I told the REI rep that he could put it back for those reasons. And that's when he asked me if I had considered the Garmin fitness trackers. And Boy am I glad that he did! The Garmin Vivosmart to the rescue! - The armband (aka bracelet) feels much nicer/suppler than the Flex - The Vivosmart is MUCH easier to put on (its clasp is head and shoulders better than the one on the Fle). - I love the Vivosmart's minimalistic bracelet look - The fact that it doesn't display anything until you tap it not only makes it look nicer, but it has a big battery saving effect - the number of steps taken displayed is easy to read - I have been getting 7+ days at a time before it needs to be recharged - The bracelet has a battery level display, so I know when I need to recharge it. - The bracelet displays time, day, and date on a single screen - The bracelet displays the number of steps I have taken during the day - The bracelet vibrates when I have been sitting too long -- THIS IS KEY FOR ME; it is so easy for me to get wrapped up on stuff on the computer and not realize how long I've been sitting; the Vivosmart's "move bar" and accompanying vibration is just what I need to snap me out of my computer haze and get my blood flowing. - If I opt to leave bluetooth on, both on the bracelet and my phone, I love the fact that the Vivosmart not only vibrates to notify me of an incoming call, but it also does so with respect to Texts I receive, and I was able to configure it to do the same for android calendar Reminder notifications. And, with respect to texts and calendar reminder notifications, it not only vibrates, but I can read the contents of those notifications right on the bracelet itself. - there is an alarm that one can configure, and it is a strong enough vibration to wake me up. the App on the phone is very well written, and I love the fact that from the app one can remove items from the bracelets "wheel"/display....I removed almost everything, leaving just current steps, time, move bar, and text/calendar notifications. There are so many good things about the Garmin Vivosmart that I love. It truly is a 5 star product, except for the following quirks which drop it to 4 stars: the initial sync to my Android Lollipop phone was terrible; I am a techie and I can tell you that it just doesn't work. After many failures thru the Android phone, I tried using their Windows app to get it to sync, and that didn't work on my old Windows Vista PC (it just sat there doing nothing). As a last ditch effort I tried the app on my wife's Windows 7 laptop...that was the ticket!... I was able to get it to sync and to update the firmware on the bracelet. And, from there on out it has been smooth sailing using the Android app on my phone (but it shouldn't take a techie an hour the first time to get it to synched up). occasionally it loses the connection to my phone even when they are right next to one another; I don't know that this is the bracelet causing the problem though...I think it may be my phone. On the positive side, when it loses the connection it vibrates to let me know this. Usually it reconnects on its own within a couple of minutes, but once in three weeks I had to manually turn bluetooth off/on in order to get it to reconnect. No way to disable vibrate but keep notifications on (you can turn off notifications all together by toggling the Danger/Privacy icon, but there is no way that I can find to keep notifications on, but turn vibrations off). Bluetooth icon is the same whether you have turned bluetooth on the Vivosmart on or off; it would be really nice if there was a slash symbol slicing thru the icon when bluetooth is turned off (ala a no-smoking style slash). I still love the Vivosmart, but if they would fix the above items my rating would be a solid 5 stars instead of 4 stars. I'd still choose this over a Fitbit any day of the week; see my Flex woes below. Fitbit Flex woes: step count, time, date, text msgs, calendar events not shown on Flex; charger broke w/in 1 year, core/battery broke w/in 1 year, armband/bracelet cracked w/in 2 years; these problems are common and happened on mine, my wife's, & friend's -

Read More I really want this to work better but it doesn't. I can't get it to stay connect via B'tooth to my phone no matter what. It'll disconnect when I'm five feet away...what's the point of having it connected then? I basically turned off all notification features and use it primarily as a watch and activity tracker, which it really does just fine at. I take it backpacking with me and it's awesome on charge and keeping track of our days travel distance and sleep. After my last trip though, it turned off and never came back on. Garmin sent a replacement pretty quickly so hopefully this one works out a bit better. -

Read More I've had my VivoSmart for almost 4 months. I can say that I like it a lot. I previously had the the VivoFit 1 and my wife has the Jawbone Up24. The wife now wants a VivoSmart because she likes the display and notifications. I liked the VivoFit and used it for 6 months until the display went out. Garmin gave me no issues for warranty swapping the unit, but also gave me the option to upgrade to the VivoSmart. I knew I wanted to add the features of the VivoSmart so I took them up on the upgrade for a price difference fee. I would buy either device again and they have both motivated me to walk 10,000+ steps everyday which is the main purpose of having an activity tracker. Previously to having a track, I probably only averaged 6,000 steps per day. Anyway here are the cons to this device: 1 . Need recharged probably every 5 days. I do this at night when I am sleeping. You could probably get a week if you turn down the display brightness, but it would be hard to read. I did like that the VivoFit did not need recharged, but charcing this every 5 days isn't too bad. 2. Notifications do not always go through, but this could be an issue with my phone. I get them most of the time though. 3. Sometimes the display does not come on unless tapped a number of times. Most of the time it works though. Pros: 1. The display feeds you a ton of information. You can choose the different apps to notify you through the unit. 2. It figures out sleep pretty automatically. You can set it to sleep mode, but I have found it is pretty accurate at determining this automatically. 3. Vibrating notifications. I love this and it quietly lets you know even if your phone is on silent. 4. Find my phone feature. You need to be withing Bluetooth range, but it works really well. 5. It connects to Ant+ HR monitors and Garmin bike speed sensor. Handy if I forget my Garmin cycling computer. 6. It is waterproof! I shower with it and have no issues with it breaking. A lot of the other devices. 7. It's really small and not bulky like a watch. The device is not perfect, but it is a nice unit. My wife plans to replace her Up24 with the VivoSmart. I would buy it again. -

Read More I was pretty excited about the Vivosmart after using a Fitbit for some time. It is pretty sleek with nice amounts of data available. Comparing the run to my GPS (Suunto Ambit 2) I found the Garmin to over count steps and mileage. This is not a deal breaker for me. What I do find to be a big issue is: 1. Constantly connecting and disconnecting (with message and vibration) from Bluetooth. If is just happened behind the scenes it would not be a problem but the constant reminder is annoying. 2. Gamin Connect is terrible. Gamin really needs to invest in better user interface/ experience. Poor connection, not well laid out etc. Fitbit App is MUCH nicer. 3. Syncing: Very spotty, many errors. 4. Finally the ability to scroll on the device to see the different screens. Syncing did not help and good luck finding advice from Garmin. In summary it is a cool device that had potential but poor app design and glitch performance did not win me over.
Read More I did a lot of research before buying my first fitness tracker. This one ticked all the boxes for me. But after about 5-6 months, I had the same problem as zakyuson: the display pixels started to disappear. It didn't bother me at first, but then it got bad enough to the point that I couldn't see the date or minutes. Didn't even bother trying to get it replaced by Garmin; just returned it to REI and got a full refund.
