Read More We bought these over Memorial Day weekend for our 7-year-old, loving the look and breathability, and knowing that Chaco is a well-regarded brand. Within one month, the rubber toe overlap peeled down on both shoes. I called REI and spoke with one of their shoe department guys, and he confirmed that they've had a number of returns with these for that reason, and for people saying the shoes smelled bad - which also happened with my son's pair but I figured it was just his boy feet! The REI guy said that when Chaco rolls out a new shoe (which this one is), they sometimes have issues they are still tweaking - which is likely the case with this shoe. So I'd wait another season before buying them; hopefully they'll be fully tweaked by then:-) I will say that the REI folks took them return, no problem.
