Read More I went with the small size after my sister bought a medium and had trouble keeping it snug around her 45lb austrailian shepherd. The small size fits great on my 45 lb terrier, but the bags are too small to be of much use. They are too short for a standard water bottle, and I can just squeeze in a 1qt. gatorade bottle on each side, but with fatter bottle digs into the dog's sides. For a shorter day hike or for small amounts of food, this bag is great. For longer camping trips when I want the dog to carry some of his own water, this bag is not very helpful.
