Read More For the last two years I've been using an Apple Smart Case to protect my iPad mini, but I was never entirely happy with it. The iPad would occasionally fall out of the Smart Case while reading and the magnets in the cover weren't really strong enough to keep the case folded into a stand. The STM Studio case turns out to be an excellent alternative to the Apple Smart Case. The hard-shell back holds your iPad much more securely than the Apple case and the magnet holds the cover in place much better than any of Apple's cases or covers. The STM Studio case gives the impression that it will provide much more protection for your iPad than the Apple case. When used as a stand, the base of the STM case is wider and thus significantly more stable than the Apple Smart Case. The biggest downside to the STM Studio case is the weight: it's noticeably heavier than the Apple Smart Case. It's light enough for me to hold it one-handed for long periods of time while reading, but if you're looking for the lightest case available, this isn't it.
