I had an earlier pro trek that i loved but after a year decided it would only work when it wanted to. Seeing the new improved pro treks i grabbed this one up and wanted to love it, i do not, it is just ok and low and behold one day i noticed the time was wrong and the date and the year. Totally unacceptable - will be returning when i make it out to REI one of these days....

My wife bought this for my birthday. I'd had a Casio G-Shock for 18 years that finally lost its audio alarm. I'd been wanting something with an altimeter since I regularly hike and climb. Fortunately, the controls are laid out much the same as my previous Casio with the obvious exception of the new functions doubled up on the backward/forward buttons. But this watch is so much better. I've had it up to 10,700ft and was surprised at how accurate the reading was. It was a bluebird day on the mountain so little pressure change the whole way. As much as I prefer the metric system, I change the increments from meters to feet. I also changed the setting for the light display time. Another reviewer found the default setting too short and I agree. You can change it to 4 seconds, which is plenty. The display is easy to read, which is a big improvement over my old watch. I'm not getting any younger. I've yet to use the alarm, timer, stopwatch but they seem straightforward. The compass to me seems like just a "nice to have". Nothing would replace my sighting compass and map. However, if the altimeter continues to work well, I may find myself reaching less for my GPS and more for my wrist. The profile is nice and it sits well on my wrist. I'm quite happy so far.

I received this watch for Christmas and find it does everything fairly well. As others have said, I wouldn't wander into the woods with only this item but for everyday use and day hiking it serves its purpose. If it performs like other Casios I've owned, I'm sure I will have it for years.

I've had this watch for about a month of hunting, hiking and wearing around the office and the functions are pretty good. As other comments mention, the temp can be off if you are wearing it (unless you calibrated it while on and the actual temp is close to the calibration temp). The compass function is good but I found that you need to have the watch on a reasonably flat horizontal plane to avoid inaccurate readings, which you have to do with a regular compass so it's not a big deal. The band is just ok, not terrible but not great, I may replace it in the future. My biggest complaint, which is pretty minor, is the light function. The light will come on for 2 seconds and that is it. So regardless of if you hold the light button you only get 2 seconds per press. Not a deal breaker by any means, but can be annoying on those occasions when you need more than a quick glance at the time/bearing/alt/etc.

Bought this watch after my previous Casio watch finally stopped functioning after 15 years. Very pleased with this watch, the back light is great and it has all the functions my previous watch had plus a few more. The special functions (altimeter, compass and barometer) are nice but I still would not depend on them to replace dedicated instruments made specifically for those functions. The thermometer (in the barometer function) reads warmer then it actually is when wearing the watch, obviously being so close to the skin it is not going to give an accurate reading of surrounding air temp but that is not something I am going to find fault in the watch for. It reads air temp fine if you take the watch off. The compass seems to work fairly well but I always use a standard dial compass out of habit and only used the compass function to see how accurate it was, it was accurate enough to get you in the direction you needed to go which is fine for me as well. The altimeter I have not used very much as I am still becoming accustomed to using it but overall I am very pleased with this watch.

Nice watch. The positive display looks better in person than it does in web pics. Definitely feels lighter than the prev. generation (PAG 240) but also feels a bit less substantial so if you liked that about the 240s you might miss it with this one. Seems accurate so far; the Casio altimeters drift a bit as the barometric pressure changes but it's easy enough to calibrate it back to your known elevation. If you need a Baro/Alti lock then you should consider a Suunto. The backlight is insanely bright which is nice but it's white now, not the nice blue of the prev. models or the really cool new deep blue of the new negative display 270s. If the band were softer I'd give it 5* but I just wear it a little loose and it's fine. I hear the band on the PRW-3000 is significantly more comfortable. Great everyday + outdoor watch.
