Read More Apparently, based on Mizuno's own web site, this particular model of "Wave Rider" is not as popular with long-time customers. However, as a new customer (first Mizuno shoes), I like this Wave Rider 17. I few years ago, I transitioned from being a heel-striker to now running with a mid-foot strike (most of the time). This shoe suits my current running form well. It is fairly flat and light, allowing a comfortable mid-foot strike. Yet it still provides excellent all-around support and cushioning. If I was still a heel-striker, I would probably prefer a shoe with more cushioning in the heel area. I still use a heel strike sometimes, like when running a significant downslope, and there is enough cushioning in the heel area to make that comfortable, without it being a "burden" (excess weight and heel height). After using for about two weeks, there is very little visible wear on the bottom. I tend to put more wear on outer middle area, and that portion seems to have a more wear-resistent material. I think this shoe will last me longer than most. And it's been comfortable from my first run. I also like the appearance. Mine is dark blue, with yellow, white and black highlights. Very attractive. I would feel comfortable wearing them as "casual walking-around shoes." I was getting annoyed with recent shoes for my previous brand, because of "tacky" choices; looks like high-school summer interns picked the color combinations and cosmetics. So, if the new Wave Rider 18 is supposed to be "better," I look forward to trying it, once my Wave Rider 17 wears out. But no hurry; hope to wear these for a while... :) -

Read More Absolutely loved the old Waverider 12 and its predecessors but this model is another flop. Pro's: It's a nice looking shoe, light weight and a nice fit (narrow as I like my running shoes). Con's: Very uncomfortable to run in. After ~100 miles I developed planters fasciitis. Mizuno just can't get the soles right on the Waverider. Since version 12, the Waverider soles have made for a rough and achy ride. -

Read More I bought these because Mizuno's in the past have felt amazing and are great runners or if you walk and stand all day. I thought these were a great color (navy/orange) and bought them as runners. When they came in the mail I realized they looked even better with jeans so these will be my casual's and I will by the red as the runner's. Mizuno is the most understated brand on the market. Please do not ever take the priority off comfort, aesthetics, and utility. You have the triple crown in my eyes. -

Read More I will only run in mizunos. My last 4/5 pairs were the wave rider 16 love the shoe. I mistakenly ordered the 17 (not realizing it was the 17 vs 16) and the second I put the shoe on I thought it felt funny and was very uncomfortable. Previous to the 16 I have ran in different wave rider models and found a love for the mizuno brand in general. However, this shoe just felt extremely uncomfortable I gave it a shot and hopped on the treadmill. After my run I had huge blisters on the top of both my big toes and it feels like something hard rubbing the top of my feet. It was so bad I couldn't even walk in the shoes because of the pain in my feet. I tried giving the shoe one more shot and to no avail ended up with two bloody socks and more blistering. I'm hoping the shoes I received are defective. Switching back to my old sneakers for now. -

Read More Second pair of the wr17 I have worn and they are still the best shoe for me. Reviews may say otherwise and I encourage everyone to wear the shoe that is for them but if you are looking to switch to a mizuno shoe and you are a neutral, average runner, test the wave riders (whatever model may be available at the time) and after about 400 miles, you will see why they are outstanding shoes. I will have the 18 next and I cant wait for another comfortable, long run. Wear your shoes and run your best. Enjoy. -

Read More I have run in WR's for at least 8-10 years, and have had many many pairs. the 17s just are a different shoe, flat out. The materials used seem cheaper, the fit and support are different too (worse). I've worn them now for 6 months and still can't get used to them, very disappointed. I've been looking all over for a pair of 16s but just can't find them anymore. Too bad, I just bought a pair of Nikes and we'll see how those do. Hopefully mizuno will figure this out and the 19's will be more like the old WRs.
Read More I love my Mizuno Wave Rider 17s (WR17s). They are light comfortable and they come in black and lime green on white with a hint of orange. I am set to purchase a 3rd pair. The reason why I like these shoes and why they work for me is because I have a wide fore toe and a narrow heal, but not extremely narrow and not exceptionally wide. Prior to running in the WR17s I was convinced that I needed a stability shoes for my moderately flat feet. After reviewing race photos, it became apparent that my foot strikes the ground predominantly on the outside edge of my fore toe (super-pronation). At that point, I'd realized I didn't need arch support, I needed a shoe that would provide a simple amount of cushion for my the outside-edge of my fore toe. I do not know if this is true, but I had gathered that since my foot strike was on the outside edge of my fore toes then the stability post in shoes was adding to the super-pronation of my foot strike. I believed that by minimizing structure I could boost foot strength naturally by getting a lesser bulky shoe. Not so much that I needed a pair of minimalist shoes. So I picked up the WR17s. I've since then eliminated foot discomfort (blisters and strains). My feet are tougher not so tough that they look hideous in flip-flops. I have on occasion suffered injuries due to inconsistency in training or lack of training variation. My fastest half-marathon is 1:25:56 and my fastest marathon is 3:12:27. I train 6-7 days a week and average 60-70 per week for 6 weeks on (quality workouts) 1 to 2 weeks off (recovery workouts). On race day I wear the Wave Hitogamis.
