I now have two sets of these and I use them year round. I purchased the first set for drying my Mountaineering boots in Colorado, and they worked great completely drying out my boots and providing a little warmth to my boots before I pulled them on every morning. My boots are damp at night, not soaking wet. Also, these are Mountaineering boots, not taller ski boots, so I'm able to pull the tongue out enough to help them air out. I use them year round to dry my cycling shoes and running shoes after riding/running in the rain. They will dry my shoes overnight, ready for a run/ride the next morning. I use them regularly in my hiking boots as well, no problem drying those out either. They get warm, but not hot, so they will not damage the materials in shoes. I take them with my boots for every outdoor adventure, and sometimes travel with them for work if I know I'll be possibly getting my shoes wet. I gave these 4 stars instead of 5 only because I can't attest to them drying out taller ski boots.
  • God send
Amazing, this is a god send to people who ski more than once a week. An absolute must for any skiier.

i am looking for compact ski boot dryers that can be easily be taken while traveling. i was hoping they would dry my ski boots overnight without taking the liners out of the boots so my shims, etc. would not be disturbed every night. i left these heaters in my boots overnight multiple times after normal ski days and they simply did not dry my liners while inside my boots. if i take the liners out and then use the dryers, they work great. unfortunately, the only reason i wanted dryers was to dry the liners with removing them from the plastic boot shell. so i think they would work great for hiking boots and shoes, just not for ski boots. they make a different model with a fan built in which may better, but haven't tried them yet. hopefully rei will let me return these!

I've been using these for years. They are a MUST have if you ski more than one day at a time. I'm a ski patroller who skis 70+ days annually. Without these, your boots will be damp if you ski two days in a row. Damp boots are cold boots. Cold boots are no fun. When I get home from skiing, I plug these in and then put one into each ski boot and leave them in until I leave for skiing the next morning. Make sure that you get it properly in and up to the toe of the boot. The boot will be dry and warm when you put it on. If you have a portable AC inverter you can plug them in while in the car and they will be warm when you put them on at the ski area. Our kids are also racers and they ski every day no matter the weather. Before we used these, you could actually see liquid water between the shell and liner from condensation. Using these every night cured that problem. It's hard for me to see how anyone could have a problem using these - it's dead on simple. It's just a resistive heating element protected by a plastic shell/grid from actually touching your boots. You plug it in, it gets warm. The warmth drives out the moisture. It is not hot, it's warm - otherwise you'd wreck your gloves and boots if you dry them too fast. You must leave it in for 5-6 hours if you want everything totally dry and ready to go. Every skier should have a set of these and they should travel with you. Utterly indispensable. There is also a version that has little fans in the tip (toes) and can be plugged into both AC or into your car's DC plug. They work fine too, but this version is more durable. I don't think either of them works better than the other so this is the best bet.

Although the description says that it can be used for gloves it CANNOT. I do not even see how it is of any use for Boots. I tried using it for my gloves (that I had bought at REI) and it never really dried them, and they still had a smell. It goes back. A forced air unit will work far better and faster and do the job correctly.

After a long day of walking in the woods the boots get rather wet inside. This product dried my boots out in two hours. I'm impressed with the drying capability, small rugged design, and it's easily packable. much better than my dads old big upright boot dryer that took 8 hours to finish and was a pain to transport. I would highly recommend these. The only thing I wish it had was a humidity sensor to automatically shut off.
