It does take some practice putting them on and your dog getting use to them. I have a 120 lbs great dane mix and bought these for the sole purpose of walking and hiking in 110 degree summer days. I didn't realize their greatness until I went on a long hike on a overcast 70 degree day. I didn't put these on my dog and brought them along, just in case. About 5 miles into the hike my dogs paws developed extreme blisters and was unable to continue walking due to rocks and sticks poking his raw paws. I did carry him for a while until I became exhausted and realized I had the boots. I cleaned out his paws as best as possible, put the socks on followed by the boots and he was able to walk the rest of the way on his own will power as it kept debris from pressing into his paws. Now added benefits as well. It took about two weeks for his paws to fully heal and the boots actually worked well at keeping medical bandages on and when he has injured his paws has helped prevent him from licking his paws raw. Now I rated it only 4 stars as the design isn't perfect. The back paw boots tend rotate upside down with the grip side facing upwards. The socks also can snag on the dew claws which irritate easily if you aren't careful putting them on. Overall they are excellent to just own. However for hiking, you will probably be stopping every 30 minutes to adjust the boots and if your dog jerks their leg you will probably accidentally pull them off you'll be spending more time trying to get them back on. I haven't had any issues with them falling off, but you do have to strap them tightly to the feet.

Got these for my long haired German Shepherd a month or so ago. I live in the mountains and trudge through lots of snow/mud. Despite her mimicking a draft horse, they seem to stay on and prevent snow chunks from forming between her toes & pads of her paws. The only problems are sometimes the Velcro cinch will peel back because snow gets caked into the connecting part. Also her dew claws have poked holes into the sock sleeve.

We use these for our Goldendoodle in the winter. We've tried many different boots, including the sturdier Ruffwear ones, and these are the best. They're easy to get on once you get the hang, and stay on well. My only complaint is that the stitching at the top of the cuff pulls very easily, so when we get the boots, I just run a loop stitch around the top to hold the cuff/reinfoce the factory stitching. The rubber wears after about a winters worth of walks on city streets/sidewalks, but if you're just using for hiking and snow play they would last longer than 1 season.

These have worked very well for my Dutch Malinois. She's been wearing them since one year old. She wore them on 112 degree hot pavement and in 12 inches 0 degree cold snow. They stay on very well, she's never tried to remove them (she's a trained explosive detection dog so gear has to be sturdy) pretty easy to put on (make sure the dew claw doesn't get snagged). The more you put them on the faster it gets. They are a bit noisy on hardwood floors and pavement (you won't be sneaking up on anyone) sounds like she's 'clogging'. Only complaint they don't have much traction on slick surfaces, I will buy her a set of the pair with heavy sole traction for this. Great brand don't give up quickly on these!! Try them many times before giving up and returning them! Distract your pup with treats if they start to focus on the boots, but once they are up and moving they will focus on the walk/run/hike and not the boots. Get properly sized my pups boots have never 'fallen off'.

We have a spaniel/border collie cross. These boots were very difficult to get on. She's a pretty easy-going dog but had difficulty sitting through us fumbling to put them on. I suspect once you got them on they would stay on. However, it wasn't worth the hassle of getting them on to see how they would work. We ultimately returned these and are taking the chance she won't need them.

Today was Daisy's first hike in the local mountains. I could tell she was very comfortable wearing them. Thanks to them, the rocky trail was not much of a bother for her. I never once saw her trying to kick them off. She was on the trail for a total of about 4 hours. Sizing them was tricky. I had to exchange my first pair because it was too small and I made sure Daisy was with me for the exchange and REI staff helped me find the right size and try it at the store. I think these are great pair of boots and hoping to keep on hiking!!!

Let me preface this by saying I'm sure these work great for some dogs in some caliber of wintry weather. I bought these for my bull terrier who has trouble dealing with the California heat when we go on long hikes. He'd constantly stop and raise his paws up and down because the trails were so hot here. So, while at the REI store one day for something completely different, I happened to tell a shop assistant about it and she recommended these booties. First off, I thought it was ridiculous to put shoes on a dog, but if they helped my dog from getting blisters on his paws, I'd try them. Yeah, it was funny and cute watching my already funny-looking dog raise his paws high in the air and kind of walk around like he was wearing clown shoes, and he did in fact get used to them very quickly. This was good because I had a trip planned that weekend in Big Sur and the weather was supposed to be moderately hot. Fast forward to the trail - the dog starts overheating almost instantaneously after putting on the booties.. no longer an issue to keep his paws from getting hurt but rather an issue of him dying of a heart attack or hyperthermia. My friend turns to me and says, "uh, don't dogs like.. sweat through their paws?" And upon further research, yes, dogs primarily regulate body temp through their paws. I was effectively boiling my dog with these booties. I took the booties off and he was fine. To make a short story long, these are probably good for dogs in cold weather/snow.. but, I was wildly clueless and shouldn't have listened to the shop assistant (who was equally clueless) and put booties on a dog that was already suffering from high temperatures.
