Read More I bought this to play music while backpacking and it works great. It actually gains battery while playing music. If it were only a speaker system it would get 4 stars (at low volume there is a quiet humming noise and the base isn't incredible at high volume) but because of the USB charging port, I can actually use my gopro on long camping trips so I'm giving it 5. -

Read More This thing is small and light with a large solar panel, which all make it quite nice. Much better than having a portable speaker and a separate solar charger to lug around. No nest of wires or connectors to deal with. I appreciate the clean form factor in this single item. The sound quality is quite poor though. I have heard several other brands of portable speakers that friends own - they all sound better than this one. This has very poor (non existent) low frequency response and generally sounds like a tin can. Also, the speakers both face directly forward - not good for all-around sound when in camp. I was especially disappointed because I own an Eton Soulra (larger solar speaker system) and it sounds awesome. Guess they got cheap on the speakers in the past few years... I would only recommend this if you're more interested in the solar charging than the sound quality. -

Read More Great for strapping to backpack for (urban) family hikes and sharing the tunes. Good for motivation while you do yardwork. Not super loud or precise sound, but a big benefit over most built-in mobile-device speakers and does quite well for its' size. Plan to use this in concert w/ a SealLine zip case when kayaking and for camping. The reasoning is Bluetooth adds the ability to forsake a cord (and an avenue for leakage). I realize the Rukus isn't waterproof, but it's cheaper and a little more tolerant of mosture than a phone / tablet. I haven't gotten much chance to test the solar charging yet; but it seems that a couple hours in the Oct AZ sun was enough to top it off after playing for ~3 hours. Will update if I am able once I've used it more. -

Read More I would have given this five stars but the sound output isn't loud enough to suit a gathering of more than 5-6. But the sound quality is very good and the whole solar power thing makes this ideal for travel, outings or just some sound in the yard while reading. The built in lithium battery lasts along time even if its been a number of days since seeing sunlight. -

Read More The packaging of this speaker reminds me that Mark Twain once said, "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." The claims on the package are also exaggerated. This speaker charges well in the sun and plugged in. Bluetooth and the auxilary input work well. The volume and clarity are suffiecent for it's size. The product is only slightly larger than half a sheet of loose leaf paper, which I personally did not expect. The photos I saw made it seem much larger. The package is incomplete or barebones, depending on how you look at it. Only one cord is in the box and that is to a usb. If you dont have a usb charger you're out of luck. No auxilary cord. What really upsets me is the lack of "water resistance." The first time I used the speaker I sprayed it with water to clean it, then stood it on end to dry. From that incident there now appears to be water in or under the solar panel. I've had it less than 48 hours and it may be ruined. -

Read More This was an amazingly unexpected gift to receive. The sound quality, solar functionality, and durability of this product make it hands down the best item I have used. I have used this on float trips, day trips to the beach, and when not on a trip it rests (and charges) on the arm of an Adirondack chair in the backyard. Splashes from whitewater or just the sprinkler system have yet to phase this device. I recently started charging my iPhone with the solar charging capacity, and was amazed. I LOVE IT! Though I received this Rugged Rukus as a gift, I plan to give it as a gift too. -
Sep 8, 2013Nice AdditionI use the Rugged Rukus when I work in the yard. It's nice that it stays charged while I work in the garden.
Read More I bought this for my daughter Luau Party, and was impressed by this small speaker live thru my expectations. Sounds decent for the size and Bluetooth connects right away and doesn't drop connection. Definitely a good buy and got it on special.
