Read More An Ice Age Trail guide wore these and watching her awesome traction made me want to get my own pair. I did and have worn them once on a snow packed local trail. The friend with me did slip a bit, but I was sure footed! We had to cross a paved path and I hated to walk on these over that payment because it will dull the spikes so quickly. I will be mindful of that whenever I use these. I am a size 8.5 and they fit perfectly. My friend (size 9) tried them on and they were too tight. I love the portability of these and will look to made a carrying bag for them. I can't wait to wear them again next weekend! -

Read More Cowabunga, these things are effective. They turn ice, crusted or packed snow, slush, and mud into a dry summer trail. I was apprehensive about the first stream crossing on bare rocks, but they are at least as secure as vibram. The rubber is sturdy, the cleats and chains chrome or stainless steel. They go on and off easily and are unnoticable in use, except when jogging down brief ice covered downhills. There are 2 potential problems, both of which I encountered. 1. If you get them in mid-winter, you can go so fast and far that your out of shape muscles will feel trashed later. 2. If you go out in the morning cold, you can go so much farther and longer than planned that when you turn around, the previously packed and solid snow will be soft, and you'll have a miserable time post-holing back. They aren't suited for fluffy snow where your need your snowshoes for float and they are appropriate for city sidewalks where Yaktrax, and presumably Nanospikes and IceTrekkers, work better. Snow can get under the chains or the rubber, but won't affect performance. Every once in a while I encounter a truly superior product and this is one. 6 Stars. -

Read More These give impressive traction on frozen ground, ice, and snow. It is a bit challenging to get them on while wearing gloves without leaving the chains a little loose. When you plant your foot these grip well. They are a little strange to walk on hard, flat surfaces (pavement, concrete, slick rock) which the spikes can't dig into. Not a 'walk around town' product. I bought the XL size which fits my size 14 hiking and work boots very well. They are a bit tight on my insulated pac boots but still workable. -
Feb 1, 2015Lasted two years with moderate use.Although these spikes work extremely well, the rubber portion seems to deteriorate very quickly and broke after only two years.

Read More I just used these on 4 miles in snow up to 12". I had carried them for several weeks in my pack in a canvas shopping bag several times and finally got a worthy chance to put them on. Mainly broken trail snow here in the Sandias. The spikes performed flawlessly, only slipping in powdery stretches where the sheets broke like baby avalanches. I kept them on descending the lower stretches and they were good on mud and rock too. I could feel the extra tension in the cross-training shoe and my left big toe has to get used to that. Definitely a must have for snow and ice environments.
