Read More I wore these with hiking boots on a 5 day 72 mile backpacking trip and they kept the trail dust and debris out of my boots. I've also worn them on multiple winter trail runs with my running shoes and they've kept me dry in snow, slush, mud, and rain. They are easy to adjust and stay tight for 2 hr runs. -

Read More Some of the aspects of the design of this gaiter are nice but, other aspects need to be refined. I like the lightweight, breathable material for hot days. I like the adjustability of the strap. I like the heavy duty rubber strap that goes under the shoe. However, like others have said, unless you have a shoe with deep lugs, the strap won't stay in place and the back of the gaiter slides up off the heel, no matter how tight you adjust it. After only 3 months of use, the eyelet tore out of the material (probably from tightening it so much) so I had to replace them. I don't expect the new pair to do any better. -

Read More I love the design and the light weight product, but the rivet holding the strap together broke on my first pair after less than 100 miles and now the exact same thing happened on my second pair after only 25 miles. Headed back to REI today for a third pair before my Tiger Mt 25k this weekend. -

I used it with trail runners that have medium size lugs and the same thing happens. Its just not functional. Great lightweight gaiter....with zero functionality. redesign. -

Read More This has worked fairly well for me. My only complaint is the quality of the stitching. They thread has been coming loose on it's own after a few months of owning them. I've only washed them twice in a machine and followed the instructions exactly and has only exacerbated the problem and seams are splitting apart. -

Read More I bought the REI Trail Running Gaiters ~1 month ago and can't say I've gained much appreciation for them. I have used them on 5 different occasions to include two runs beyond 15 miles on single track trails. I am not too self-obbssed to admit that the problems that I have "run" into may be due to my preference in running shoes. I run in Brooks Cascadias which do not have a shank. It is a completely level treaded sole. My issue is that the retaining strap that runs underneath the midsole of the shoe is always coming loose and then completely comes off from the bottom of the shoe where it then bobs on the back of my heels until I stop and fix them. While not having a shank may be part of the problem, I think the biggest problem is are the clips used to keep the retaining straps taught. Since the gaiters have only been used 5 times, I can't blame the mis-function of the of the clips on aging or over-use. When the retaining strap does come loose, the bib then rises above the top of the shoe, allowing dirt and rocks to get in, which defeats the whole purpose of having running shoe gaiters. On a positive note, I will say that the when the straps did remain fastened this product worked very well. I was most impressed how the elastic portion of the bib around the ankle never sagged and remained tight enough to keep dirt and grim out despite my skinny runner's ankles. Those that run with a shoe that has a shank may have better luck with this item but since I think the issue primarily resides with the clips, you will probably have the same issue. As for me, I'll be going with a different brand gaiter.
Read More I used these once, the second time I tried to put them on the metal rivets holding the plastic strap on the pull string was broke. So I returned for another pair, today hiking the same rivets broke after 2 miles of hiking, not running. I could return, but I'm just going to fold the plastic strap over the string and sew it in place. I think they work great keeping dirt snow etc... out, but hardware is very cheap. Other down side is you have to put them on before your shoes. Would not recommend buying these at all though.
