Read More I do like this little lamp. It's great for those times when you don't want a direct beam from a flashlight or headlamp (reading in your tent, for instance). However, I found that the shade (a piece of silicone) doesn't hold to the body too well. It survived two trips before it started coming loose. Now I can barely keep it on the light. This detracts more form the aesthetic appeal of the light than from its functionality. It still works wonderfully as a lantern. -
Aug 12, 2015didn't work well at allWorked for a couple of weeks and then stopped working. Not worth the price.

Read More Light works well, and complaints by folks not able to turn it on are just a lack of simple trial and error method of "figuring it out". The idea of the magnetic clasp is pretty good and hanging it in a tent worked nicely. The light is bright, and not really sure if the strobe function is too practical, since it would annoy you to death if you had to be anywhere near it. Problem is the rubber-ish globe cover. It's terribly designed and will fall off in an instant if you actually tried to strap this to your pack and walk around with it. One slight bump and the cover is gone, pure and simple. There's nothing there to hold it on, besides a very shallow ridge that can be overcome with a tiny flick of your finger. For the price, that's a major design flaw and makes the whole light not worth the cost (since if you lose the globe cover, the light is pretty useless due to how glaringly bright it is.) -

Read More I enjoyed the light though I only used once, but may try as a bedroom light to test out more. I wish item wasn't so pricey, especially since it runs on regular AAA batteries, but it makes replacement easy with easy to find batteries. I recommend if you are looking for a different design, but go cheaper if you can find an item that works just as a light -

Didn't even make it through a set of batteries. Lame . Not sure about the rubber, lower part... I assume it's flexible and removable so it can compact, but it loses shape and doesn't stay on well. -

Read More It needs to be played around with a little in order to get used to the controls. Read the Instructions!! I was so sad when it dropped from about 7 feet down to my concrete basement floor and did not work after that...BUT all that had happened was that on impact the batteries had pushed the "prongs" that connect the batteries so that there was no connectivity. Took me awhile to figure out (I thought I had ruined the LEDs) but just had to move the prongs with some small pliers for the lamp to work again. What a relief! I would have bought another one despite not being the cheapest lamp out there. This is a really nice item, it may not be the most practical lamp out there but I would highly recommend to someone who appreciates items with character and a different twist on design and functionality. The light from this is also fantastic! Very bright and adjustable. Candle mode at lowest setting (lasts 70 hour) should provide a good "night light" going camping with my 3 year old. -

Read More We bought one of these and a second one just one trip later. The light this thing throws is a game changer. We hang them in the tent and easily on trees, ropes, or even our clothes for great task lighting. The magnetic closure makes it easy to move it quickly.
Read More I have owned a hozuki lantern for a year. I was intrigued by the "candlelight mode" but it does not simulate a candle - no erratic flickering, so I do not use it. It puts out great light and the magnet is strong. Main complaint is that if you toss in a pack pocket, the nice rubbery shade comes off, and the cover that holds the batteries in position often just pops off, with little provocation. Would not recommend for backpacking use. They could have made the cover (gray part) a LOT more solid. Also does not have a "locked" mode and it's easy for the batteries to drain while being stored.
