BioLite Wood Burning CampStove

NONE

This product is no longer available.

  • There's no need to buy or carry heavy fuel canisters with this stove—simply collect twigs during your journey and burn them when you get to camp
  • Using patent-pending thermoelectric technology, the stove converts heat to electricity that charges an internal battery and powers a fan to increase the efficiency of the fire
  • Extra electricity can be used to charge small electronics like cell phones, headlamps and rechargeable batteries via the USB port; devices and charging cables sold separately
  • For an Apple iPhone® 4S, 20 min. of charging with a strong fire gives you about 60 min. of talk time; charging times vary by device as well as by the strength of the fire
  • During a full burn, the CampStove can boil 1 liter of water in as little as 4 min. 30 sec.; place your pot or pan on the built-in pot support
  • Like a campfire, you can sit around the CampStove and watch the flames dance while you roast marshmallows and spend time with friends
  • Twigs from hardwood trees, like oak, maple and hickory, will burn hottest and cleanest; choose wood that's dry, and avoid burning leaves, as they can be smoky
  • Stove can also burn wood pellets (available at many home and garden stores) if you're camping in a spot where you're not allowed to collect twigs or trees aren't present
  • Weighs about 2 lbs.and is about the same size as a 1-liter Nalgene water bottle; power module stows inside the fuel chamber when the stove is not in use
  • Anodized-aluminum legs create a stable platform for cooking; legs fold in for compact storage when you're done making dinner
  • Starter battery helps kick-start the fire before the stove begins generating its own power so it's best to charge the battery for 2 - 4 hrs. before leaving home
  • Comes with firestarter, stuff sack, USB cord for charging the internal battery and instructions for use; does not include a cable for charging devices

Biolite does a great job at heating water using the Biolite Kettle or the Kettle Charge. I would recommend using a slower burning hotter wood such as oak to keep the flame as hot as possible for the longest time. One by one by four inches works great . You don't want the wood to cover or go above the top holes or it will produce more smoke and not burn as efficiently. Using this product I was able to get 7% charge on the average use which kept my phone battery from being completely discharged on a five day outing with no outlets and turning on the car to charge devices was frowned upon. It's a very cool product to use at the river or beach when you want to fry up some burgers or hotdogs, or whatever you like using the stove with the portable grill attachment and you'd be surprised with how little wood it takes to make some good food. The bundle package also comes with a light that is awesome for cooking at night or using it as ground lighting. I have also used the hot embers to kick-start a large campfire that otherwise would have been difficult to start with my limited tools and lack of motivation to find dry kindling. The downside to this product is replacing the battery once it fails. I'm sure you can open it up yourself and replace it, but it hasn't failed on me yet. Hope this helps!

Awesome find! Worth every penny, when you have dry kindling!! We used it on the AT and it rained the entire week!! Luckily we brought a standby means of cooking! ??

I have been looking at this stove for quite some time. However, after reading a number of negative reviews ( here and elsewhere ) and relying on my backpacking experiences I have decided this product is a waste of money. Too heavy and fragile (water is the enemy), it seems destined as a toy for gear heads and nothing more!

Went on a section hike of the Appalachian Trail. This was the second time I used it. The first time was a trial run at home. I have this and the pot that it fits inside. Its easy to set up. Got it set up and ready to go, gathered up some sticks from around the camp site. Lit a small fire starter and put it in, hit the switch, and then started putting sticks in, until it was mostly full. The weather had been dry for a few days, though the week before was a washout. The sticks seemed to be mostly dry. The fire got going in a few short minutes, and after about 5 I put my pot on and it didn't take very long to come to a boil. I was only boiling enough water for a 2 serving pack of lasagna. I did have a cord just in case I needed to charge my phone, but did not use it on this trip. I really like this product. I used it again 2 days later for breakfast. It lit up about the same, though the sticks at this location were a little wetter. Dry sticks do work best.

I really love the idea and function of this product. Its easy to get a fire started and keep going once you've practiced a few times. Its nice to have a wood burning small fire while taking a break from backpacking and then put it out and keep climbing. The only issue i have with it is that just over 2 lbs adds a crazy amount of weight when backpacking. When compared to other lighter camp stove options, i don't think ill be backpacking over long distances with it again. However it is well made and very cool

I really wanted to like this product. The couple times I have used this, it took nearly 45 minutes to boil a cup of water. constantly feeding it with wood is a major chore after a long days hike and you just want to rest and eat. The charging mechanism is cool, but it is only charging when the fire is roaring hot, which only last a couple minutes before you have to refuel. you may get 1 or 2 percent charge from it. this is a neat idea, but isn't something I want to mess with when I am tired. It may be good for home during an extended power outage, but not for hiking. The fact that another reviewer said the battery wears out after 2-3 years is absolutely ridiculous.

Good product. Good design. The attachable grill makes cooking simple. Enough grill surface space for about 4 decent size burgers or a half rack of ribs. Hard to control the temperature. Overall, this is a cook cooking option if you like to grill and want an easy setup over starting a fire. I've never taken it on a backpacking trip. Too bulky and heavy for me.
