Read More I was just browsing REI when I saw the only review for this watch and am compelled to write my opposite experience. I purchased the GW-6900 for about $100 after discounts more than a couple years back (3-4 years?) and have been nothing but happy about the purchase. Charging the solar was rather easy in my experience. Normal everyday sun/light exposure keeps my battery charged. The best part is this watch stands the test of time! Extreme sports, rough work, altitude, weeks of being in the water, and all the daily use and abuse I give it. All it ever takes is a wipe of the screen and some sunshine to keep her alive. Mine looks a big haggard with some scratches and paint splatter, but i'm really surprised its not more banged up. ALL of my previous watches have not lasted this long- i haven't even replaced the band yet (although that is why I'm on here). Honestly, unless the solar battery ever dies (is it replaceable?) I will wear this watch every day of my life till I have no use for a watch anymore. -

Read More I bought this watch for an ocean-side vacation. This is a solar watch and out of the box it took over two days (yes, in the sun by the pool/ocean) to charge enough to set. So for two days I wore a watch and had to keep asking everyone what time it was. It never did reach a full charge (yes, 7 days poolside) and I promptly took it back to REI upon my return. I have a feeling that this problem was due to the retailer (REI) storing the watch in the package (in the dark) for who knows how long--draining the battery beyond its capacity to fully recharge. Once it charged to a medium charge the watch never failed to perform and was fully water resistant in the pool and the ocean. Had it reached a full charge I would have kept it--but I wasn't interested in it enough to try again. It was returned for a full (and hassle-free) refund.
Read More I bought this watch a year ago from REI and wear it daily. It is dependable and worry free due to the synchronization with the atomic clock and solar face that recharges the battery. It has a battery saving sleep mode when not in use and "wakes up" as soon as you move it. I have dropped it and put it through exposure ie; rain, heat, cold with no problems. I have a drawer filled with watches that need batteries, but why go through that when you can have a one that is maintenance and worry free.
