The fitbit is one of the best exercise equipment I've ever bought. A few friends have one too and we are all in a bit of competition to see who can get the most steps and mile every week. It's really helped me get myself out and walking. Hardly ever use the car to do light errands and walk almost everywhere. It's odd how something so small can make an impact but it has ~ who would have thought?! I love my fitbit!

I liked the unit's reports BUT the clip was not secure enough. I found it had slipped of my pants pocket twice and the third time I could not find it. I tried the app recommended to find Bluetooth devices but to no avail so I am out the cost of the product with no recourse. Please provide a better way to attach the product.

I love my Zip. I love that it tracks my steps/calories, and that I can hide it under my clothes. I hate that the plastic tip keeps breaking off. I'm on my 4th replacement and I'm switching over to a Flex, in the hopes of not having to replace a part every 2-3 months. This is a great product. If they ever fix that hard plastic part, I will buy another one, but not until then.
  • 8 months, then nothing
It just stopped working. battery was fine, it hadn't gotten wet. Just nothing. I expected more than 8 months of durability.
  • Easier than you think to use.

I don't have a smart phone which can be programmed to upload the fitbit data; I use the little dongle that comes with the device and just leave it in my computer. To transfer data, I would pull up the fitbit resident program and put the device by the dongle and it would sometimes say it wasn't close enough and have to do it several times. What I didn't realize is that every time I sit down by my computer, the data is being transferred and I need not bother with that other nonsense, just go to the fitbit website and view my data. I like that the program emails me to tell me that the battery is low. I got perhaps 5 months out of a battery. I just noticed today it always shows the level of the battery if I just look in the right place. And I learned that the batteries I bought on eBay only bring the level to half full. I guess I’ll expect it to not last as long as the first one. There is more to this device than I ever realized. Under setup, you can identify the length of stride when walking and changing it from whatever default made a distinct difference in the data. I hadn't initially realized that the face changes according to activity, starting with it's little tongue giving an apparent raspberry. When it smiles, I'm greatly encouraged. I accidentally left my fitbit Zip on my pant's pocket and put it through the washer and dryer. Though of course no guarantee, but no harm was done. Apparently the soft rubber holding device seals adequately. I did lose it once while clipped on my pocket, knocking it off when pulling other stuff out of my pocket. After amazing luck finding it, I now just put it in my pants pocket along with my change. Not sure how placement on your person affects the data, but I'm comparing data all collected the same way, so is not a concern. It has really helped get me focused on my health.

Received a zip for Christmas and really like it. My only question would be accuracy for distance. When I walk a 1/4 mile track and know I've walked 3 miles and the zip shows that I've only walked 2.75 miles, I know it's not as accurate as I'd like. Having said that, it does keep me motivated to reach my personal goals. Maybe other zips are more accurate, whatever the case I'll keep mine and keep walking.

I've owned my Zip for about six days now, and it's actually gotten me off the couch. So far I've been doing about 5000 steps per day, which is a whole lot better than the 1000 steps I had been doing. It's tiny, it's functional, and it seems quite sturdy for its size. One caveat, though--a lot of these units malfunction early on. I know this because I researched the HECK out of them before my purchase. Thankfully, REI has a great return policy. My Zip malfunctioned yesterday, so I'm going to "zip" (hahaha) down to REI and exchange it this afternoon. My favorite thing about the Zip has to be that it syncs seamlessly with my iPhone and MyFitnessPal, the app I use to track calories in/out. I don't need to be near a computer to see how I'm faring throughout the day. My boyfriend also purchased one, and we're having a great time competing each day for steps. So, even though there are a lot of duds out there, it is possible to get a good unit with REI's return policy (FitBit will even exchange them!). I highly recommend buying a Zip if you're having trouble getting motivated to move. Happy stepping!

My husband and I have fitbit ones - we got zips for our kids before going on a hiking vacation to some National Parks. We love keeping track of each other and sending each other messages. The kids love the faces that the zip makes when you are doing well or slacking off. Great fitness tracker and app!
