Dec 17, 2013Fun for the kids or good BOB light
Read More Bought a few of these for the kids (2 and 3) since they love flashlights so much. Both kids love to take them to bed and leave them on while they fall asleep. Which means, they get run alot. Battery life is very good with these litte LED. Having the light and/or wand output is a lot of fun to play with, for both kids and adults. On a more serious side, this would make a good light to put in a BOB (Bug out Bag) or day hiker bag. The lithium batteries means they will stay good for years in storage or non-use. The main or spot light is good enough for close tasks such as walking at night or rummaging through a pack. The wand light is good as a marker (think chem light) or lighting up a tent/room. There is a built in whistle which should be a part of every backpacker's gear in case of emergency. Batteries are pretty easy to replace if you have a mini philips screwdriver. Life Gear offers free replacement batteries and recyling if you pay the shipping and handling (was $4.95 at time of posting). That's not a big deal to me as I sourced them about 50 times cheaper in bulk, but some do like to go the extra mile and this make recycling easy. I did have one light get flakey and will turn off if bumped with light to medium force. I wouldn't hold it against Life Gear if you saw how many times these things were thrown by the kids.
