Read More Fine for urban messy workday slick or slushy conditions and small patches of trail ice. ( However these are not spikes and traction will be limited. ) Quick and simple putting on and pulling off; they are a handy little solution you can store in your pocket or pack for some of those " just in case " encounters. ( Not serious gear ); but take them for what they are and they offer a much better remedy than several of the other offerings available. They should last awhile if taken care of. The price is great. -

Read More These chains do the job in most conditions. If you are on pure sheet ice then you probably want something with spikes. Otherwise, these are superb. I rarely use my micro-spikes these days and just take these along. They lay flat in your pack pocket (like a disc) when not in use and have no sharp spikes to damage anything. I just lost a pair and will be buying another immediately. -

Read More These do a great job at providing traction in areas with packed snow. They can, however, come loose from the shoe and get lost on the trail if you don't realize this has happened. Never happened for me or my wife but I've met a few people on trails who had lost a chain somewhere along the trail ... Could be they just got the wrong size. -
Feb 16, 2013No traction on slick iceGood traction in snow or rough ice. Like having ball bearings on your shoes on smooth, slick ice like you would find on sidewalks after thaw/freeze.

Read More I take my dog on a 2-mile trail hike every night or through the neighborhood if it's too icy/snowy to get to the trails. Two nights ago the trail was icy enough to make me nervous, so I bought these. We got several inches of snow the same day and I couldn't believe the difference they made! I don't have great balance and am timid when the conditions are slick. I didn't slip even once - even an inch - wearing these and I know the conditions were bad. And this was despite my dog pulling on the leash. I am very pleased with this purchase and hope they will hold up to frequent use. -
Jan 2, 2013great with bootsThese are great with my Joan of Arctic Sorel boots! I can shovel and move on ice with no worries.
Read More For the price these are great. No, they aren't as good as the 'spike' versions, but at 1/4 the price they are fine in typical snow/ice walking conditions. I can afford a couple of pairs just in case. Beware, left in melting slush/salt they do rust.
