Read More I'm an avid Adventure Racer and was in the market for a good waterproof racing shoe to tackle multiple terrains and activities. This shoe has, thus far, proven to be a solid purchase. The Pros: 1. Waterproof: I was a bit apprehensive about the "Climate Shield" technology after reading several other reviews saying it didn't work. I can attest that after more than 6 hours running through the woods in ankle deep snow, ice and hidden marshes in my most recent race,... the Climate Shield worked just fine. My feet stayed dry and warm with no water getting through. 2. Rigidity: The uppers of this shoe are quite stiff. Way more stiff than a running shoe and even more stiff than a few hiking shoes I tried on for comparison. The stiffness really helped stabilize me during some uphill running through reentrants and gullies. Unlike some other shoes I've had, the stiffness of this shoe really helped when I needed to throw on a pair of yak trax for extra traction on ice. The Cons: 1. While I really appreciate the quick "speed" lace system, whomever designed this shoe made one questionable decision. The top lace and cord lock come down right over the middle of the "pocket" in the tongue for stowing the cord lock. It makes for an unnecessary pain to try to maneuver the cord lock into the pocket. 2. NOT for daily wear: Unless you like really hot feet. These shoes are great for outdoor activities in cold weather. I tried wearing them as daily shoes while breaking them in and discovered that they don't breathe really well. I tried a variety of socks and had the same result: sweaty, hot feet after a few hours. Additionally, I found that the XA comps seemed to be a bit roomier in the toe than the XA Pros. I would recommend this shoe to anyone looking for a solid outdoor winter activity shoe / race shoe. -

Read More Love the salomon fit. The grip is good except on very slippery surfaces, regular tennis shoes seem to do better. I prefer regular laces which help in customizing the areas you want tighter or looser. Working great for light backpacking and hiking.
Read More As always, Solomon is not a let down. Extremely well crafted, waterproof, comfortable, and extremely durable shoe. This the second pair of XA comps I have owned. I still own the first pair which still gets use and is 8 years old. Only one complaint with my new pair; the loop on the top of the tounge that is pulled on to expose the pocket for the lace tightener started fraying after a month and I eventually cut it off.
