Read More These shoes, although comfortable are not waterproof. They have never kept my feet dry. Though my feet have never become soaked, they also have never been dry either. To make matters worse, the traction is terrible. I work outside, and am walking through all kinds of terrain, and have slipped numerous times wearing these. Waterproof hiking shoes that aren't waterproof and have no traction is a huge fail. I wouldn't recommend Merrell shoes to anyone. -

Read More These are definitely a good pair of hiking shoes. Strudy, waterproof, good support, and surprisingly good insulation in the cold. They even hold their own in snow, slush and thin ice. As an added bonus, the deep grooves on the sole lock microspikes in-place very well, too. That said, the major issue I have with these shoes is even just standing around in them for an extended period of time makes my heels very sore. The cushion of the inner sole sort-of gives way under the weight on your heels after a few minutes. This results in the odd feeling that your heels are "sinking" into the back of the shoe, which I don't enjoy very much. I have large feet (size 12) so I don't know if this issue is a result of uneven weight distribution on my large feet or just a design flaw of the show itself. While trying them out I'd definitely recommend just standing in them (without moving) for a couple of minutes to see how they feel. -

Read More I've had these shoes for a few months and have used them for day hikes only. They are comfortable but they just seek big and heavy for a low cut hiking shoe compared to another brand I had previously. This review wont be very helpful in that I have nothing outstanding to say pro or con that would helpful other than the comment on their bulk. -

Read More I've worn Merrell before, and had no issues. But this model gives me excruciating pain and blisters when i go for long hikes. My hikes usually are more than 10 miles a day wearing a 50 pound backpack, mostly flat terrain, and after 7 miles the pain in my feet is unimaginable, and blisters start to form pretty quickly. I normally wear 10.5 on all my shoes, so i got size 10.5 for this ones too. I am buying a different kind of shoes next time. -

Read More I bought these for my son and he says they are very comfortable. Took them on a five-mile hike after only a couple of days; no problems. He even tested for water-proof worthiness in a creek; they are indeed water-proof. His only complaint is that the laces don't stay tied and are too short to double knot. No big deal. Check back to see how long they last; that's a true test of a shoe.
Read More returned my north face ultra 109's for these merrell's. best decision i have made. no break in period, day one took them out on a very rainy/wet 8 mile hike. no blisters, and my feet stayed dried.
