Read More This hat was gifted to my daughter by my mother, but the size choice was left to me. She is almost 2 with a 19" head. After reading a review of this hat on this site we drove the 45 minutes to the store to try it on because my husband and I disagreed about which size was appropriate. Surprising both of us we bought the Youth size since it does adjust down that much and the extra fabric gives it kind of a cute bonnet look like the adult Sundancer model also by Sunday Afternoons. Luckily the little girl loves hats so she leaves it on without much fussing. Since her hair is very light and just now fully coming in hats are really important for her head, ears, neck, and shoulders. I just wish it was a little easier for her to put on herself, but that will come in time. Very glad we picked this size though the 4" brim really is a little too big for her because it is fantastic for shading her in her carseat. It will last a long time. -

Read More I hated to pay [$] for a kids hat when I can get one at any used kids sale for $2 - but this hat has been worth it. I bought for my 18 month old daughter it after someone young in our family was found to have melanoma. I went looking for a full coverage light sun hat- we tried every hat in the store on her and most got yanked off her head after 30 seconds. This hat she left on and it stayed on all the way to the check out despite the fact that it was a BRIGHT pink (arg I usually avoid this type of pink). I think that she likes it because it does not droop down and block her view at all. THe chin strap and size adjustment keep it on well, and she doesn't seem to mind it on even the hottest days.We bought the youth (5-9 year) size despite her being less than 2 because it cinches down so well in the back and that was what REI had the day we tried them all. It has done fine with water, mud, popsicles, and the day to day abuse of a toddler. It still looks great, goes on without protest and stays on the whole time she is outside. Will be buying another one for her younger brother. Highly recommended.
