This seems like a well made product and functions as advertised. However, REI copy is incorrect regarding the adapter required to charge AAA batteries. The 'details' state - "Works with AA and AAA rechargeable batteries (comes with 4 AA batteries); AAA batteries require an adapter, which is included with the Goal Zero AAA batteries." Actually I was surprised by that, because for the price and the pointless 'hassle factor' it should be included. Well, it turns out the Guide 10 Plus DOES come with the AAA adapter. I didn't need to purchase yet another set of rechargeable batteries after all. I don't know if the product has changed and REI hasn't updated the description, or whether it's just an error, but don't buy the Goal Zero triple A's just to get the adapter!
  • Fully charged batteries for backpacking
I use the Guide 10 Plus with my Nomad 20 to keep a set of AA & AAA fully charged for my GPS and head lights. Either size fully charged in under 3 hours with the Nomad 20.

Got this a few years ago for keeping devices charged while camping and it worked great with my iphone 4 and some other electronics. Super happy. This summer, though, tried it with the iphone 5 (and more recently a 6), and found it never charged the phone, in spite a full day in the sun and a new set of batteries. Then noticed that the housing had melted around the LED. Either way it doesn't charge my primary device (iPhone 6) off the USB port which is my main application.

This pack recharges other devices from a set of 4 AA rechargeable batteries. Once you realize that, and the limitations of that, this thing does perfectly what it says it will do. It is lightweight, and works very well in conjunction with any of the goal zero panels. It charged a large iphone from 5 to 61% pretty quickly (depleting the AA batteries), and then reached full charge again by the end of the day with the nomad 7 panel. The little LED light on it makes for a nice little light. The blinking display is a little hard to read during daylight, so you kind of have to play with it for a minute to figure out how charged up it is. They say that it is capable of getting wet, but I would discourage trying that, it looks like water can get into it under the proper circumstances. It comes with a good variety of charging/discharging options so it can hook up to almost anything to either get powered up, or give power to. All in all it does what it says it will do, and its a pretty handy little entry level solar battery kit.

I got the Guide 10 plus in a combo kit with the Nomad 7, Torch 250, and the Rock Out 2. So far it is meh at best. It took a good 4 hrs to get a full charge with a USB wall charger only to give my Samsung s5 a 51% charge from about 9%. I think they must have tested his on an iPhone 4 or something quite old. In my phones usage app it estimated it would take 5hrs to get a full charge from the Guide 10. When the normal charger estimated 2hrs. I then tryed to use just 4 Energizer alkaline batteries (not recommended by them) and though my phone recognized it was plugged in it gave no charge and continued to die. I think it will work best wile connected to the Nomad 7, but i have not tried that yet. I also tried to use it to charge my Zune HD. the Guide 10 once again only gave it about 55% charge. I will report back after I try to charge my Phone with it connected to the Nomad 7.
