It would be nice if it kept constant tabs on the people in your group, it only tells you where they are when they update it. Unless we did not understand how it worked, which is a possibility. I would recommend taking an REI class if you are depending on all the features, it is somewhat complex to understand. -

Read More I own this GPS with OnXMaps Arizona Hunting 24k Topo great combination. I have owned several GPS from Garmin Etrex30, 64st, and now Rino650. I use this unit for all scouting trips. It stores hundreds of waypoints then I plug my Rino into my computer to save these points and view them on Basecamp a program for Garmin GPS downloadable from the Garmin website for free make sure you update the software also for free and idiot proof. On hunting trips I split up with my party to cover more ground and we can all keep track of each other by sending our location to other Rino's. So I can basically see where everyine with a Rino is on my map on the GPS. Also you can send text messages back and forth say if a buddy is glassing (observing) from a vantage point he could send text message to my Rino let me know theres an Elk standing right behind me always use that. It has a decent screen you can view a good area on your screen the touch screen is nice I suggest getting a scratch resistant screen protector to keep it like new. I did not and it has some scratches but I can still see fine it doesn't bother me or my Rino. If I need to I can use the two way radio works great works better than my 200 dollar set of radios. I can get the weather when I am back deep in the woods for multiple days via NOAA weather. I like to use custom maps alot it saves money once you are used to using Basecamp it's quick and easy to load any map just look up the instruction's on their website Youtube it. You can also overlay maps when I have multiple data maps or maps which have different information. The battery Life isnt to bad I wish all GPS batteries would last longer I turn it off when not using I dont keep it on all the time I can get my battery to last a couple days this way I leave it on using it fairly often during the day off at night carry a couple extra batteries I tend to spend a week or longer in the back woods if need be. Love this GPS anyone that puts a GPS down or rates it low either didn't spend enough money on their GPS to get what they wanted doesnt know how to use a GPS or what its purpose is for every GPS is diffrent and good or better for a specfic activity than another GPS (takes a long time took me at least 1 to 2 years to know everything about my GPS) or needs to just take their GPS back to the store and return it because no one cares if you got a bad GPS or you dropped it or you dont know how to use it because I am here to tell you these things work perfect every time you just need to learn to use it get help. -

I now only have one unit; disappointed, because when working, they are really cool for tracking each other on GPS screen and using radio. Let me know when you perfect them and I will buy another one! -

The features on the Rino 650 have really been top notch, the ease of operation was simple to understand and installing maps also was a breeze. Garmin definitely hit a home run with the introduction of the Rino line but more so with the 650, I am quite impressed with this GPS. The feature that sold me on this unit was the ability to locate other individuals who have a Rino (any model) on the GPS, knowing their location is quite vital when your out in the woods. -

Read More My hunting partners and I use Rinos to communicate & keep track of each other. Being able to "poll" & locate each other is an important safety feature in the back country. When the countryside all looks the same, especially in snow or limited visibility, Rinos make finding our vehicle easy. The combined Radio & GPS is convenient. My son needed a Rino now that he lives nearby and we hunt & bike together frequently. I had a now discontinued Rino 530 HCX, but was never really happy with the radio performance, the tiny screen, the toggle switch, multi-step drop down menus, and especially the "pan map" function. I Sold my 530 for just $50 less than the 650 net cost & bought two 650s so that we could learn them together. The more expensive 655t with built-in 100K basemap & low resolution 5MP camera didn't seem that useful. Good decision: the 650 is much more user friendly than the 530. Easy touch screen navigation, even in light gloves. Bigger screen. Easy to find my position by hitting the back button on the Map screen. Radio function is much improved. Although not available thru REI, huntinggpsmaps 24K equivalent chip shows topo, landmarks, roads, private land boundaries & owner info, but REI carries 24K topo maps that are all that's needed for backpacking, cross country skiing, and biking. The GPS updates quickly. The compass & altimeter work well. Some things could be better: If not too bulky, a still bigger screen (like the Montana 650) would be better. Although the carabiner is useful, for the $$, a secure belt clip, lanyard, and case should be included. A built-in 24K topo basemap would be worth a little extra. Although screen navigation is very easy, it doesn't appear that I can re-arrange the icons to put the most frequently used on the 1st screen. Time should be shown unobtrusively on all screens. The screen glass is tougher than the 530, but Gorilla Glass would eliminate the need for a case. Having said that, the 650 is the best Rino yet and highly recommended for safety, communication, and navigation all in one device. -
