Read More I love these Smartwool socks as everyday socks living in the cool Pacific Northwest; the stripey colors of the Saturnsphere are especially fun. I have owned several pairs over the years and overall they're good socks, however my one complaint is that the heel tends to slide down such that the part that rubs against my shoe is *above* the reinforced area (where the orange stripe is in the image), and wears thin very quickly. I thought that this might be due to my needing a larger size; I wear a 10.5 which is right at the cusp between M and L, so after wearing Mediums for a while, I bought two pairs of Larges to see if that would help. Alas, they still sagged. If I always wore these over tights/longjohns that kept them in place, this issue might be avoided, but I usually wear them on bare skin and it inevitably slides down and wears through the un-reinforced area. -

Read More I have owned 25 pair of Smartwool socks over the past 4-5 years. The original ones I owned seemed great, but all of the pairs purchased in the last three years fall apart after 6 months. The heels develop huge holes. This isn't an occasional issue—it has happened with ALL of the pairs. They are comfortable, but I've never had socks that fall apart so quickly. For the price, there are many other better options. -
