Read More This kit can pretty much solve any outdoor emergency situation. The knife/light/whistle combo & the firestarter are alone worth the [$] price tag. I wouldn't mind if the waterproof compartment was a bit deeper (and that's being nitpicky) but I was easily able to re-pack the contents with a couple of additional items I wanted to have on hand. I love this thing because I can toss it in any one of my packs on a moment's notice and know that I'm covered if things go unexpectedly wrong. Highly recommended for day trips. -

I always recommend carring a survival kit when in the backcountry, and while this one may not be perfect, it's really good and can be added to with other items. Some careful reorganizing of contents is suggested. Put the kit and other Essentials into a Day Pack and you will have the basics for an unplanned. overnight in the field; add trail food, shelter, clothing and water. -

Read More In terms of weight and cost, there are better values available if you're willing to put it together. For convenience and ease of use, it is a solid deal. I was able to add a few antihistamine and pain reliever caplets in the back compartment which may come in handy. Best use for me is in conjunction with a small first aid kit on short trips, one in each cargo pant pocket. It is not advisable to plan hard use for the included knife. The intent is in the name, survive/stay outdoors longer, not indefinitely.

Read More This is a well built waterproof case with a few neat gadgets built in, But overall as a survival kit you better be in the parking lot of a grocery store. The couple fishhook and safety pins won't do much. Its a great case though and if filled with a tiny assortment of better items it could be a real last ditch survival or E&E Kit. that said though it's a cool little box and beats a Altoid tin as the start of a pocket kit
