Sep 23, 2015Good shoes. Don't get them wet.

Jul 6, 2015There is a better shoe for your moneyI couldn't get comfortable in this shoe. It has a high center of gravity and definitely not for backpacking. By the way, Patagonia has discontinued all of their shoe lines.

Read More This shoe had pretty much everything I needed in terms of its fit. Wider forefoot, good toebox height; deep, well-shaped, somewhat narrower heel that holds my heel well. Adequate room for a custom insole without pushing the foot too high in the shoe. A tongue that stays centered, and is long enough to stay above the lacing when shoe is tied. Outsole seems stiffer than "sneaker" types, to better protect from rocky surfaces. Also, the shoe breathes well, doesn't get hot on the trail. Hopefully, they will wear well (since I'm a lightweight. I see other reviewers have had sole issues). -

Read More I needed a new pair of boots FAST, because I was thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and had only a day to replace my blown-out boots. These were comfortable and the sales rep assured me they could handle a load. THEY DO NOT. As soon as I put my pack on, I started rolling my ankles on the slightest uneven terrain. I thought it was me, but a professional later showed me where the sole was too soft and didn't have the proper stiffness to support a load greater than just a person without a pack. In addition, within 2 days, bits of the sole started coming unglued and falling off. I was forced to hike in these boots until my next resupply stop, and by then I had done serious damage to my achilles tendons. Thankfully, REI allowed me to return them for a refund, and I told them they should not be selling these boots (at all!), particularly for backpacking. -

Read More Excellent fit, style, comfort. I purchased for a multi-day backpack trip. These shoes perform very well on smooth trails with back pack, or more challenging without pack. However, they are too soft on the sole for supporting packer and pack weight on rocky trails. I experienced considerable bruising on rocky portions of trails. I could feel every rock and twist in the trail. Also, trail dust easily penetrates the mesh over the toe box and through two sock layers. -
Aug 1, 2014Returned them after two weeks.I hike 2-5 miles per day in the desert. After two weeks and less than 20 miles the shoes were separating at the toe cap. The vibram sole was also starting to lose some of the cleats.
Read More I had the shoes for about a year. I used them, maybe twenty times and did maybe 50 miles in them. One of the rubber nibs broke off (on both shoes), the small sewn seam in the outside of the toe box has loosened and caused the rubber their to start cracking, the pull tab in the back was the first to start disconnecting. It's hanging on, but using it has torn a hole in the heel of the shoe. Also, the leather on the outside, where it is sewn to the front of the toe, continues in. that's not bad, but after walking through water, it dried inside the shoe and curled up. this caused a pea sized lump to form and start eating away my "ring finger" toe. They were super comfy and good until I walked through water or used them. I expect my hiking shoes to last till the treads are gone. The tread still looks great, except for the two nibs that broke off.
