I purchased this a year ago to aid me in my runs. It's a great basic GPS heart rate monitor with an easy-to-navigate menu. The heart rate monitor strap is comfortable, stays in place, and synchs quite well with the GPS unit. However, the four-prong charging ports have always been fickle and as time passed, it got increasingly worse. The prongs slip easily so that while the charger is attached to the device, it won't actually be charging. It's very difficult to determine whether the unit is charging. I returned it to the store tonight absolutely fed up as it reached a point where it would not hold a charge or charge at all, and upgraded.

Although this watch has all the functions I need, I cannot recommend it. The watch face always displays pace and distance, but it will display ONLY ONE OF time, stopwatch (elapsed) time, or heart rate. During interval workouts I need the watch to display BOTH heart rate and stopwatch time simultaneously - I want to monitor my heart rate and easily see how much time I'm spending in the interval in the rest between intervals. This watch cannot do that as the display can only show either HR or stopwatch time but not both. (Yes, I know the watch has an "interval" function that must be set up ahead of time but I really just want to see HR and stopwatch time simultaneously.) Because I cannot see BOTH heart rate and stopwatch time simultaneously, I cannot recommend this product.

As other reviewers have noted, lining up the charging pins can be a bit frustrating. That said, many other GPS watches on the market, including others from Garmin, use the same approach and with similar issues. It can be frustrating, but if you line it up correctly and look at the display to ensure its charging, it works just fine. I bought this knowing the new 220 and 620 were about to come out, and mostly because its still mostly all black where the new models are not. I wear this all day long and don't want a red and white or blue and pink or neon green watchface or band or stripe. I bought this specifically because its all black and can be worn all day, everyday, including at work. I would've bought a 220 or 620 if they had a plain black or plain white version of either. But with the 220/620 seemed to follow the "hey look at my running watch" trend that others have done. Quite frustrating, honestly. However when the 220 came out and REI dropped the price on the older 210's, I called and they immediately gave me a price adjustment. :) I've used this daily for running. I run a 5-miler 2x a week, a 2.5-miler 2x a week and a 10-to-15-miler 1x a week. I can charge sync and charge this watch on Monday morning and it will always last until the following Monday. It never takes more than 30-45 seconds to get a signal locked in before a run. Last week I did a 4 day stretch of the AT. I used this watch without the HR monitor and it lasted for the first, second, and last days. It took quite a few minutes to get signal due to the cloud cover, but once found it never lost it despite many ups and downs over the mountains, etc. Obviously there are better watches for hiking/trekking, but I had it and it worked well at least to be able to see pace and distance covered to compare to my map and guidebook. Also provided some good stats to look at later when I got home and sync'd it.

This watch works serves its purpose well. I have used it for races ranging from 5K to 26.2 with no major issues. The only problem I have had, and will probably sway me to another brand in the future, is the charging system. I'm not sure why they chose to use the system they did but it is extremely frustrating to use. The claw and teeth connectors take a surgeon's steady hand to line up with receptors on the watch, which oftens leads to a frustrating morning discovery that my watch failed to charge overnight. I gave it 4 stars because it is a very reliable watch but the charging systems needs to be overhauled for future updates.

I use this watch to keep track of distance and time while running. It is compact, and the basic information it displays (time, distance, pace, heart rate) is easy to read. The battery life is excellent. Very easy to use and I was very happy with it when I bought it. In Madison, it takes less than a minute for the watch to locate satellites. But it has some irritating faults. 1) I had trouble getting a GPS signal in cities. In downtown Baltimore and DC I had to wait several minutes to get a lock and on occasion was unable to get a GPS signal at all. 2) The USB connector to a computer requires you to get four prongs to contact four terminals on the watch. This is not easy and mildly irritating because you cannot be sure that the watch is connected to the computer 3) AFter about 13 months (1 year warranty) one of the knobs fell off. I bought it at REI and they replaced it for free. In the week I was without the watch (the watch was out of stock at my REI store) I tested out several apps on my phone. All of these were much better than the Forerunner 210 except that I could not look at the data during the run. On my long runs I now carry both my phone and the watch. I like the idea of a simple, easy to use watch that gives you all the basic information but this particular watch has some serious flaws.

I bought this when I started training for a marathon. The watch is compact, easy to use, and the basic information (pace, distance, time, HR) is readily viewed. The battery life is great. Exactly what I needed. But it has some flaws: 1) A little after a year of gentle use one of the buttons fell off. REI replaced the watch for free, glad I bought it at REI. 2) When I was in a city (e.g.. Baltimore, DC) it took forever get a GPS signal, and ion occasion I had to do without the GPS feature, which defeats the purpose of the watch. 3) The USB connector has four prongs that have to fit in the watch. Not only is it hard to connect, but you cannot tell if it is connected or not. Sometimes you think it is charging when its not. Also, it does not seem to charge when connected by USB to my computer. For the price I expected a better product. There are free apps for my phone that do a better job. The downside, of course, is that I have to carry my phone.
  • I want to like this watch.
The unit is supposed to be water resistant but has fogged up in the rain twice.

This product was a replacement from the Forerunner 301. I already knew what features I wanted with regards to the running activity I was going to do but the 210 had enough for me to use. I love the simplicity of the use of the watch, the functionality and the fact that it can sync with both the heart rate monitor and the footpod. This is perfect for what I am going to use it for. The only 2 things I did not like was that I did not see how many calories I was burning when I was running. I would get the total at the end of the run, this was very different than the 301 but not a really big deal. The Garmin Connect is not that easy to use, I was use to the local software on the machine but that not a big deal as well. Overall I love this watch and what it features for indoor or out. Though for indoor you do need to buy the footpod so that is another 70 bucks but hey if your serious about monitoring your exercise this is differently worth it.
