Dec 16, 2011Good ProductGreat for car camping. Can be set-up in various ways. I have bought the heavier poles from kelty as well and makes tarp even better.
Read More I camp in my SUV and purchased this tarp to give me protection as I get in and out of the vehicle in wet weather. Shade was a secondary consideration. On my first use it got the test for wet weather and setup ease. I found the first-time set up for one person was difficult. Once I figured out to place the horizontal pole on the car side of the tarp on the inside of the roof rack rail, things went better. I'm not a fan of the Figure 9 clips on the ropes. I find them awkward to use and don't seem to hold the rope taught. And the stakes provided are next to worthless. They bend when you encounter rocks in the soil (and this was pretty easy soil compared to some) and they turn, (because they are round) releasing the rope. You need to drive them all the way into the ground so the hook end is also in the ground. Also, I found black ropes to be difficult to see. Leave them on the ground while setting up and they disappear. Also a tripping hazard once they are set up. The tarp was pulled as tight as possible while dry but gathered water when it got wet. A late night storm built up water on the tarp, eventually pulling one of the stakes out, collapsing one of the poles, jerking the car when the weight was released. A frightening experience in the middle of the night. I would recommend this product, but am purchasing better stakes and trying to figure out a better rope clip option.
