Jan 18, 2016Gets the job done but disappointing on detail
Read More Very similar to the discontinued National Geographic series. I bought this because my Natl Geo maps were pretty old. Tried to plan a hike this weekend, and found using the various components was daunting, still learning; not nearly as intuitive as the old Natl Geo series. I compared the hike we took this weekend between the two mapping programs, my old and this new one. I'm a little disappointed in the level of detail in this Garmin series. My old map showed all the intermittent streams and permanent creeks we crossed, and they were absent on the "newest" Garmin map. The Garmin map did not show at all the major highway (though it is relatively new - my OLD map included it!) we drove to get to the trailhead. I need more experience with it, and I am training up to speed on this thing works, but initial use has been a let down. The old Geo TOPO series is a great map; sorry to see it go. I bought it from REI as well. The new Garmin is an overly complicated setup, and looks like it lacks detail.
