Mar 12, 2014Better then ExpectedI was a little concerned treating my expensive Marmot Down bag but it worked better then expected. Down expanded to original loft.

Read More Washed and treated my First Ascent down puffy tonight. This stuff seems to really work. Tested some bits of down that worked its way out during the rinse. Pretty amazing. Even dunked would still stay dry. Don’t know how much is due to down’s natural water repellency but impressive either way. The outer fabric was also repelling water but not as much as after other DWR treatments like ReviveX. But as the name would imply the idea is to waterproof the insulation, to prevent moisture from compacting the down and reducing loft. I hand washed cause I’m not sure what this stuff will do in a washing machine. Real tacky feeling. Maybe a pair of gloves if you hand wash unless you like water beading off your skin. The instructions stated half the bottle for 1 garment. I used half of that and it seemed more than adequate. It also said to rinse until water is clear but after soaking for the recommended 10 min the rinse had hardly any residue. It’s like coat absorbed all of the treatment. Machine dried on low, stopping occasionally to breakup the down clumps…compulsory if you’ve never washed down before. The final loft is better than before the wash. Definitely worth checking out.
