Read More Am I doing it wrong? Followed the instructions and used this product 4-5 times and STILL water soaked in. I was hiking in wet grass and brush and noticed that the tops of my boots were getting darker. Sure enough, I started to feel dampness inside. Maybe it's the product or just me, but I'm going to try something else. -

Read More I've only used this on hiking boots, where I find it very easy to apply. Just hose & scrub boots, slobber on the Nikwax while the boots are still wet, work into seams with a toothbrush (an old one, or someone elses'), wait a while, wipe off excess. I find it excellent in the low-humidity Sierra for occasional melting snow & splashing across streams, but it's not up to constant wet snow or mud. Snow Seal is the only product I've found which keeps leather boots dry when constantly flexing in the wet. -

Read More Not sure about the other user's experience. I've used Nikwax products for years and have no complaints whatsoever. For first time application on any product, it's best to apply two to three coats as noted in the instructions. Make sure to get the solution into all seams, as you'd do with any waterproofing products. It takes a bit of time and work, but the results are well worth it. I've used Nikwax on hiking boots, shoes, and gloves. The only time I've had problems was when I didn't follow instructions. Like any waterproofing product, you will need to reapply it after hard/long use of your apparel/material. -

Read More Just applied this stuff to a pair of 2yr-old Keen full leather hiking boots. What a frustration! The liquid inside apparently kept clogging where it feeds out to the sponge, so it took over 20 minutes of hard labor to get the boots reasonably covered. The instructions say something like, "shake well, press on the applicator to break seal, and spread on fabric." Well, I tried that. From then on, I had to continually keep pushing the applicator sponge onto the boots to get anything to come out. My hands were cramping from the effort! Sometimes, I'd press and almost nothing would come out. Sometimes, a decent amount would come out to where I could spread it over an area about 1"x2". Then push seven or eight more times before a noticeable amount came out again so I could continue spreading. I still have no confidence that I got an appropriate amount where I needed it, since the boots were already wet (per instructions) when I started. Hope the waterproofing works better than the applicator. I'm leaving tomorrow for one of the wettest places on the planet!
