To have the laces loose enough to put your foot into your shoe, the laces are then too loose and your foot is not secure in your shoe. I cannot imagine a sport that REI consumers would want this loose of a shoe. Could be good for slippers. -
May 26, 2014For E-Z on/off of shoesThe laces seem rugged enough. They do not fit through small lace holes. The cinching mechanism was a little tough to figure out, but I finally got it.

Read More I bought these to put in my Altra trail running shoes. I've worn Salomon's for years and I've gotten used to the quick ties, so I decided to try these out. They're not bad, but they don't give you the same custom feel that the salomon laces do. Install is pretty easy, but it takes a few day to dial in the tension. I feel like they're secure on my feet in a comfortable way now for walking around and going to the gym. I would be nervous to do plyometrics in them for fear of the shoe having the ability to move around. -

Read More I was looking to find a shoelace for my broken 510 mountain biking shoes that I didn't have to tie and untie all the time and would have a consistent snugness. I know... lazy... Sue me. While working a marathon some months ago one of the vendors sold these neat elastic shoelaces with "knots" in them to hold the shoelace in the same position relative to each eyelet. (REI really needs to sells these!) I ordered a pair but in the mean time I still needed something right now for my shoes so off to REI I went and found these "Yankz" laces. Installation was simple and easy. The don't untie and getting the shoe on and off is as simple as it gets. My problem with them is that they seem to loosen near the toe while they stay tight on top of the foot and towards the ankle. For my use (a mountain bike shoe) and my preference (I don't like them super tight anyway) this is a non-issue. But for running I could see that this could be a huge issue. So, I'd recommend them with the caveat being my above concerns about the consistent snugness throughout the length of the tongue. -

Read More I hated to give up my OLD shoes that came with no-tie laces. I could slide them open, put on the shoes, then tighten them as I wanted. But the best pair of NEW shoes came only with traditional laces. So I bought these and installed them fairly easily. BUT I fould out they aren't supposed to be adjusted after installation. I could pull my Keens on and off. But they would be too loose with some socks and too tight with others, and if I wanted to wear my orthotics, I struggled to get the shoes on. I am sadly going back to traditional laces and looking in the future for shoes with no-tie laces. -

Read More These make shoes convenient, but they work best in casual shoes and maybe running shoes. -Aesthetically too "sporty" for dress shoes -Functionally too stretchy for hiking shoes/boots They are comfortable if you like loose shoes around the house/office. In hiking shoes you can make them tight enough to strangle your feet but they'll still stretch enough that you'll be pulling your heel out of the shoe on ascents, slamming into the toebox on descents, pivoting while sidehilling, and generally swimming around the rest of the time. The same problems probably go for bike shoes (when you pull the laces will be stretching every stroke). Also a side-effect I saw is when your feet aren't in the shoes, the elastic tension will partially/completely collapse the shoes (which could shape them permanently if you leave them for several months). I have other shoes (Teva water shoes, biking shoes) that have quick laces of the same configuration except using non-elastic cord, why can't you buy them like that? I only want the quick-lace convenience, not bungee shoes.
Read More Do not like the product. Very hard to insert laces into T-lock, no provided treatment for end of laces. Makes the lace system look unfinished. The little triangle piece is just to hold excess lace length near the toe of shoe. Returned the laces. Bought 'Lock-laces" instead.
