Specs

Best Use Climbing
Material(s) Polyester resin
Dimensions 2 - 3 inches
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest CHIPS There is a reason this product is entitled Greatest Chips, these holds are very small and are meant to be. They are chip holds, not large jug holds. These smaller types of holds are meant for more advanced climbers who have a higher grip strength than a beginner or intermediate climber. They are excellent holds, well made, sturdy, and challenging. The quantity of holds for the price is due to their small size. Buyer beware, you are not getting a bargain for a bunch of large holds. You ARE however getting a bargain for a bunch of tiny chip holds meant to augment larger holds on an intermediate wall or all the holds for an advanced wall. Happy climbing!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from These thing are very small These are so small that they are almost unusable. Maybe if you are an advanced climber used to griping on just your fingertips you may like these. Anyone else will likely find them too small. If you have them on a wall and are using them as hand and foot holds they will work, but still will be very tough. I set these up on a beam on a pergola for my kids to try Ninja Warrior and non of us could hang on. I put the holds up with the largest possible edge on the top for best grip and it was still not enough. We will continue to work and possibly be able to navigate, but I am doubtful. They are quality holds and look durable. Installation is simple.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Be Cautious of Size I recently built a new in-home bouldering room that I was looking for some-what "cheap", but durable holds to help fill up my wall. When I came acrossed this package, I was amazed with how many were offered for the priced they were marked. (you really cant beat it.) I was hesitant to order them seeing how there wasn't anything in the picture to give any relevence to their actual size. Turns out, they are pretty friggin' small. I was initally going to use them for holds, seeing how they are lables as in fact "holds", but in order to use them as holds, you would need to be on a sloping wall since they are so small. All in all I ended up using them as permanent foot holds, and "fill-in" holds around my bolt-on holds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny. Great way to improve you're climbing skills and your overall strength in the comfort of your own home. Very easy to mount/dismount. Just be careful not to fasten them too tight, or they might crack. Use a drill with a torque setting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great holds I just built a wall to help with finger strength and technique and I could not be more happy with them. These were very easy to mount and move to wherever you want them. I can already feel my fingers getting stronger and have learned new ways to hold on. I would recommend using a drill to get the screws in but tighten them down by hand so that they do not crack.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not just for climbers We had a mission trip project. We wanted to build a playground for a school in Burundi and were limited on budget. We priced the yard lot accessories and they were just too expensive. Found these and loved the price per piece. I wondered if they would be to small then realized the children are generally smaller than American children of same age. But mainly, they have nothing now so I was convinced they would love this option more than fewer larger holds 6 times the price. There were multiple color and size choices. We purchased 2 bags of chips and put nearly 2/3 on 2 6ft walls saving the rest for phase 2. These chips worked at every level. Not only are they colorful, they are durable, and shaped for a climber as well as a curious child. These were the finishing touch on a playground that had 100 children christen it with excitement. I believe this product is going to last forever in this use. They can be moved when boards need replaced. They are made of what appears to be a long lasting material. And I witnessed the immediate usage where they showed no sign of failing. All in all I am very happy with this purchase and application. They also held up to a 200 lb man.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sized for kids- good for playset good- includes enough 1-1/2" bag of screws, multi-colored, kid sized, great price for starter set for outdoor play set... bad- does not have directions, can break hold if screws over tightened, small holds- not for adults

Are these made to be outside? What is the life of this product outdoors?

Asked by: Mattrad
In general, the holds are fine to use outside. Over time, UV rays will cause the colors to fade, and exposure to the elements will cause some degradation, but they should be usable for at least 5 years if kept clean.

What is the weight capacity? What is the recommended age? I have a 2 & 6 year old. Is this product appropriate for that age? Any warranty?

Asked by: anonymous671
Metolius does not list a weight capacity for the Greatest Chips Screw-On Holds. We would not recommend these for a 2 and 6 year old as they are very small holds. Metolius will cover the chips for 1 year against defects.
