Read More I purchased these boots for a backpacking trip on the AT. I wore these boots around my local parks (with a 30lb pack) in preparation for the trip. They felt great at first but as time went on and my miles got longer I noticed balls of my feet would really start to hurt. I just thought it was because my mileage had increased. So, as planned I took them on my first section hike on the AT. By day 2 about 25miles into the trip I had horrible pain to the balls of my feet and blisters had formed. I managed to hobble down the mountain (and I literally mean hobble, I used my hiking poles as crutches! LOL!) into an outfitter on the AT on day 3 where they showed me how my boots were already worn out!! I had maybe 60 local park miles and 30 AT miles on these boots. Ended up getting fitted with an awesome pair of Keens (that probably have 500 plus miles and still going strong) and was able to save the rest of my hike after taking a zero day at Neals Gap. -

Read More After trying on dozens of hiking boots and even having to return a previous pair, I found these gems. I wasn't totally sold on the aesthetics, but the fit was perfect. They are totally water proof and the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. I recently wore them for 25+ miles hiking in Big Bend and they performed wonderfully. No blisters or rubbing! -
Jan 11, 2016Great hiking bootsThese were my first hiking boots ever, but I love them! Waterproof, not too heavy, durable and most importantly comfortable.

Jan 10, 2016Poorly madeAt first I really liked these boots, they were very comfortable, but the soles started detaching from the shoe after about 6 months

Jan 9, 2016Merrill SirenBought these for my wife. After she'd hiked in them a couple times I asked her how they felt. She said they were perfect. Very comfortable and easily broken in.

Read More I think this is a good boot but my toenails got bruised in these boots after more than 8 mile hikes. I have trouble with that in a lot of running shoes also. The traction was good and the overall boot was sturdy. I returned them to REI and purchased a pair of Salomon's (X Ultra Mid II GTX) boots which worked better for my feet/toes.
Read More I've tried a bunch of boots in preparation for hiking on the AT in 2015, and while hiking the AT. This, by far, was the best boot for me. Comfortable weight (i.e. not too heavy), truly waterproof (unlike some), comfortable, no significant break in time. The reason I gave it 4 stars vs 5 stars is there seemed to be some "construction" problems; one pair the stitching was not quite right in the tongue area, another pair after 6 months wear the rubber that wrapped around the toe was starting to separate from boot at the very tip. Neither problem was major, just an inconvenience. This is the boot for me; I will definitely buy again.
