Can you believe 20+ years?

I've actually had the same OR Seattle Sombrero since about 1987, and it's so extremely durable that it looks new and the colors aren't faded (blue/black). Foremost it does it's job. It keeps you completely dry in rain, and the wide brim protects from blowing rain and runoff falls far behind your collar. I've used it skiing, hiking, fishing, during rainy yard work and emergency flood control. Even using it as a sun hat in hot and sticky long marches in Midwestern August, it managed to keep wicking moisture away. It's currently crumpled in my pack ready to use, and it comes back to shape quickly when needed.

very good, but one exception

My favorite hiking hat. Really waterproof, rugged (roll it up, pack it, etc), and very breathable. Perfect for hiking up to about 70 degrees. At that point you may sweat more than it can breathe away via the Gore-Tex. So not the best for physically active summer activities; though maybe OK if just walking around in hot weather. Otherwise an excellent hat: handled downpours horseback riding, sleet and snow storm in the Big Horns, hiking, fishing, travel - years of wear and tear. So good my friends went out and bought them.

EXCELLENT hat

I have loved this hat from the day I bought it. I purchased it for a 2-week Alaska kayaking trip. It was the perfect choice. The hat is bomb proof in rain and the fleecy lining kept my head warm but not too hot. I layered on a beenie for camping near the glaciers. In my opinion this is THE BEST head protection from the elements. I wouldn't use this in REALLY hot weather due to the lining (it's not removable - but I'm not complaining about that since I tend to lose things that come out). I have used it on the AT in the fall, but the back can push up against a big loaded pack and is a little annoying. I'd say for warm/hot weather you would do better with something lighter, but when you're expecting some serious sun, rain or snow this thing can't be beat. I'm a big fan of OR's quality, and this hat is no exception.
