Read More I bought this because I use a lot of AA batteries for a variety of gadgets - digital camera, bike headlights & blinkies (3 bikes), climbing headlamp, 2-way radios, avalanche tranceiver, and other stuff. I throw away at least a dozen AA batteries a year (way more, probably), and they never seem to last long enough. Once I made the intital invenstment of the charger and a few rechargable batteries (plus a few more rechargable batteries later, once I was convinced), I'm no longer buying batteries. Haven't bought any batteries in the last year or so now. The charge lasts a long time, and lasts longer than the custom rechargeable ones that came with my camera and docking station/charger. The charging process takes about 15 minutes. One warning - it does not shut itself off after the charging is complete, and overcharging can ruin your batteries. I've had it for just over a year and have been very satisfied with it. If you use a lot of batteries for a variety of things like I do, not only will this pay for itself eventually, but you won't have to buy and toss batteries all the time, and the batteries you do have will hold a charge longer. -

Read More The box in the picture says 4 AA and the description says "Includes four AA 2200 mAh NiMH rechargeable batteries", but when it arrived it had a mix of 2 AAA and 2 AA. Not a big problem, just didn't receive what was expected, and now I'm scrambling to get more of these AA's before a trip. Other than that, great charging and battery system (so far). Always shocks me to find out how much longer rechargeable batteries seem to last in certain devices than brand new batteries. You'd think it would be the other way around. -

Read More This charger has anything you could ever ask for in a charger. It has microprocessor controlled individual cell charging so it will perfectly charge batteries for devices that take 2 batteries (Mini-Maglites, GPS units) or 3 (two-way radios). It takes less than 15 minutes to recharge batteries. It will detect bad batteries and alert you instead of dangerously trying to charge them. It has a car adapter so that it works great when you're car camping or just on the road. The house adapter is a bit large and the battery cooling fan is a bit loud (but only for 15 minutes) but if you're looking for a fast, intelligent charger then these downsides are no problem.
Read More I purchased this after I got a new D-SLR like camera. I travel extensively and wanted something that would give me good power and convenient charging options. My camera takes 4 AA batteries and this is a perfect traveleing photographer's power solution (if your camera takes AA batteries, that is). I have 2 full sets of the AA batteries for the camera - as soon as one set is drained I have already charged ones to go in. I tent camped at Rocky Mtn. National Park for a week in September 2010 and was able to charge my batteries while driving on Trail Ridge Road in no time at all. I'm one of those people who likes to look at the pictures on the LCD screen at the end of the day and I take an awful lot of pictures - between taking the shots and reviewing them on the LCD I've gotten between 1.5-2 days of good solid power out of them. Anyone who loves to shoot and review pictures knows that's a pretty long time for a set of batteries. I haven't used it for any other devices so I can't speak to effectiveness other than my camera use. My charger came with 2 AA batteries and 2 AAA batteries, so it's nice to have the option to charge the 2 types on it. The instructions themselves will tell you it will give you an 80% charge after about 15 minutes, but to get the 100% charge you should leave them in the charger for about 25-30 minutes - this is what I do and it is a good solid charge. The product information also tells you that batteries charged on this unit will not last as long as batteries charged on a unit that takes a few hours. I haven't had a problem yet with waning performance and the convenience of this unit for someone who sometimes doesn't have access to electricity for days more than makes up for having to replace batteries a bit more often. The charger is noisy and the unit does get a tad warm as it charges, but these minor issues are more than compensated by its reliable performance. It's also a bit more expensive than most chargers, but again for the convenience and reliability it's more than worth it. Bottom line: Don't have a great piece of equipment and get a cheap charger and batteries. Spend a few dollars more - you'll be glad you did - I know I am.
