I picked up this paddle when purchasing a new Yak at my local REI. I was coming from an "Local Sports Store Special" Paddle that came along with a tandem kayak I bought from them a few years ago. At first the price wasn't in the range that I intending to spend, but once I had it in my hands I saw the value. I was impressed with how light it was (the carbon shaft and what looks like fiberglass paddle helps keep weight down I guess) especially compared to the aluminum and plastic paddle that I was used too. The Shaft has an almost elliptical shape to it so it fits in your closed hand just right, and when locked in to any angle (my favorite is 30* to the right) it's rock solid, no movement or play from this paddle. I'm still eagerly waiting to receive my new kayak which is on order, but had a chance to test it with a friend on a slugish tandem here on Lake Ray Hubbard. Boy did the paddle make a difference! The paddle was a blade cutting the water in such a way, I wasn't fatigued as much in my stroke. I was pushing the water more efficiently to the point my buddy even noticed! Bottom line, I would definitely recommend this paddle to anyone looking for more efficiency and comfort!
