Read More The PC-99X series of chains from SRAM are the best chains on the market if you bother to do your own maintenance. Why? Powerlink. I commute year-round. In Chicago. After a grimy ride home through the black snow and salt, I can clean the drivetrain in about 15 minutes. HOWEVER, if you don't know how to work on your bike, take a class. Broken chains lead to crashes and long walks home. -

Read More This was my first chain & cassette replacement, however I still don't think this chain is worth the extra. I researched the chains, read as many articles as I could about replacing, and spent the extra money on this one for the ease of use with the "Powerlink". It didn't go well........ I needed to remove a link to get the right length. Removing the link went fine, re-linking the chain was a nightmare. Despite several attempts the holes in the link and the pin weren't aligning properly. As a result the chain ran extremely rough and that link broke apart on a test ride - lost the pin. Also, the Powerlink won't open for me despite a significant amount of repeated effort. So I now have a broken chain that's going to cost me even more to fix. Not happy. -

Read More I've owned three of these chains, and they've broken three times. Two times the gold master link came off for no reason. One time one of the links just failed -- cracked right in half with the pins still attached. Although I love using the master link to take the chain off quickly to soak it, I can't continue to use this chain for fear that it'll break again.
