This is my partner's third pair of same make and style. He tells everyone how well they fit and how light they are compared to other shoes that he no longer wears. He uses them for walking and his only complaint is that the treads wear down quickly, but he wears them until hey are completely gone.
  • Not for teenagers- bummed.

We LOVE Salomon shoes. We are a family of 4 Salomon shoe owners. The problem is our 15 year old needs two pair minimum per year. These shoes aren't cheap, but they fit his narrow feet nicely. He has had 3 pairs of the Speedcross in less than 2 years. Unfortunately the quick tie laces come apart on every pair he has owned. Maybe it's the way he handles them?? The tongue of the shoe came out and was being held by the lace design. The sole is completely slick. We buy them in August (tax free weekend) and by mid January he already needs new shoes. Not sure if it's him or the shoe. He wears them everyday. The rest of us don't wear them everyday. It is unfortunate they don't last. The first pair we exchanged- no questions asked. I'm shocked Salomons aren't tougher than a teenager. Our son is an athlete but maybe we should try Nike for him...

I'm in the market for a good shoe for thru-hiking. Everything about these shoes are great except my arches start hurting just wearing them to the store and back. They've got it all durability, grip, easy to put on, and I can tell they would be super comfortable just not on my feet I suppose. Back to the REI store for me!
  • Light versatile shoe
I liked these so much I got in two colors. I get allot of questions about them too.

I bought these for running around in the woods, i.e. Orienteering meets and light hiking. Very happy with their look (I got the black ones) and performance. The fit took some getting used to, the shoe really grips your foot. Highly recommend Salomon for all things shoes, and particularly the Spreedcross for any fellow woodland navigators.
  • Traction in the slippery stuff

I will start off by telling you I am not a trail runner. I am an avid backpacker. I am 6'2 260 lbs and these shoes are perfect for backpacking. I have taken them on short day hikes and long 40 mile treks around Hood. My pack weight is never more than 30lbs so I don't need the ankle support. I have put over 200 miles on them and the tread looks brand new. I on'y wear them on the trail, I would bet if you wore them around town the tread would not last as long. They are comfortable right out of the box and don't require any break in period. I questioned the lacing system at first but they haven't failed me yet, actually I don't know if I could go back to trying my shoes again. The only negative is that on a dusty trail, like The Broken Top Loop in central Oregon, your feet and socks will get dirty. Love the shoe!
