Read More Honestly, I did not do a comparison between using and not using this windscreen, but it only makes sense to use one. This screen is easy enough to use and store away in my pot, beneath the fuel canister. Titanium would have been a lot lighter, but worth the price to save an ounce or more. Regardless, this is the only option and good one to boot. -

Read More This little windscreen is a big help if there's any wind, but is a little fussy to get on and off. If you have the stove with the piezo igniter be extra careful not to bump the igniter as it cracks easily. It does weigh about 2 ounces, a consideration for ultralightweight packers. -

Read More I filled the same pot with 500 mL of water at the same temperature twice consecutively. The water was previously collected from the tap and measured (didn't write down the number). Went to my basement so the wind wouldn't be a factor, and using the same pot and opening the valve to the same number of turns, I got the same fuel consumption and boil time with or without the windscreen (four minutes and 0.25 oz of fuel used). I know this isn't a laboratory test nor is my testing scientifically sound, but I was expecting an apparent reduction in numbers with the wind screen due its perceived value as a heat reflector, which should make the water boil more quickly. Of course, in the field, the wind screen may be able to alter those numbers in its favor as a wind barrier. I guess I could hook up a fan... But again, the field is the field and those conditions are hard to replicate with any degree of accuracy, and even if I didn't have this particular wind screen, I would never set a stove without some kind of wind barrier, so I am not interested in running wind tests. -

Read More I lost mine so got a replacement. Simple and easy to install. Works as advertised. Makes a real difference in breezy conditions. As far as being bulky & heavy, I always carry a GSI collapsible drip coffee maker with me, it weighs 4 3/4 OZs - the cover for it weighs 1 1/4 OZs, this windscreen weighs 2 OZs and fits inside the cover when collapsed. Or I could save 3/4 OZ and leave the cover home. This windscreen is perfect. -

Read More Yes, this product adds a little weight (2 ounces) and bulk (though it fits nicely on my MSR pot) to your pack. However, I find it improves fuel efficiency, makes the stove a little more stable, protects from wind, and is a useful little product. With this on my gigapower stove, I think I'm set for a long time. -

Read More Just used this on a breezy, long weekend at the WA coast. It definitely improves stove efficiency, especially in windy and breezy conditions. It seems to improve efficiency even in the absence of wind, because it reflects more heat back up to the pot. The only drawback was moving the tab to make room for the piezo igniter: it was a little tricky being so small and a little sharp, but I only had to do it once, so no big deal.
