Read More I bought these to wear specifically with my cowboy boots and to be the only sock I wear (instead of a liner with another sock). My boots are tight with regular socks, so I need a thinner sock for them to be comfortable. I thought I'd give these a try. They are thin like a dress sock. It makes the front of my boot comfortable but the heal slips more than I would like. They sure make it easy to get my boots on and off. Probably a little too thin though for my liking. I can get cold sweats on my feet. So far these seem alright. I'll probably find another pair for my boots in the future though. -

Read More I machine washed and dried these liners before wearing them. I was really shocked to find that the black dye bled onto my feet and into my healing blisters. I am lucky that the color did not ruin other items in the wash. I called Smartwool to see if this is a short term problem because I really like the quality of the sock. The rep said he had never heard of this happening before. Hmmmm... I then washed them by hand and set them on a paper towel to dry. Yep, black dye on the paper towel. I am sending them back and I will now try the REI brand wool liner. -

Read More Bought a pair of Smartwool Liner socks, and used them with a midweight wool pair of socks for a cold weather hike. Very please with the comfort, fit, and warmth the socks offered. They also offer the option as a lightweight sock by themselves. And I can pass them off as dress socks too. I had been wearing sythetic liner socks, but decided to give the wool ones a try. I am glad I did. Need to get a couple more pairs. -

Read More I wear these as socks just about any time I'm wearing pants. I haven't used them as liners yet. They're great boot socks. I wear them with hiking boots, motorcycle boots, cowbow boots, slippers, and dress shoes sometimes. I've never worn a pair of socks that I like better. They're warming in the winter and cooling in the summer, especially with leather boots on. Your feet can get pretty sweaty in these and stay comfortable. And thanks to the real wool, when you take your boots off, the socks dry within minutes on your feet. The wool weave is a bit coarse on the inside, but that's what I like about them. The outside weave is smooth, so the sock stays with your foot and slides against the boot, keeping the friction on your skin to a minimum as your foot moves within the boot. I've worn them on full-day hikes (not rock climbing) with no blistering. I've bought 4 pairs of these socks in 3 years and I've worn them a lot. One pair finally got holes in them from wearing them so much, so I'm replacing them with 2 more pair today. -

Read More Really great sock. Use it as a cold weather liner. I also use it as a dress sock in the office every day. It makes a great sock for biking. It's very comfortable and regulates both temperature and moisture really well whether it's hot or cold outside. I have not to date had any problems with durability or wear.
Read More REI has so much great stuff. The socks were comfortable & breathed well, but the material would get knits or ball up real quick. Those knits after awhile felt like you had something in your boot.
