Read More I bought these gaiters for myself, but as it often happens my wife fell in love with them, and so they're no longer mine... My wife is easily frustrated by things that don't work, or are difficult to put on. These gaiters however were just what the doctor ordered. She can put them on easily and they stay on throughout the hike. We primarily hike in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and gaiters come handy during winter hiking. Strongly recommend to anyone doing winter day hikes. -

Read More I have only worn them twice so far but have worked extremely well. Both times was hiking and snow shoeing in knee deep snow. They have kept thier shape and don't fall down my legs while in use. The adjustment cord on top keeps the snow and liquid out. Actually had to loosen them a couple times for being too tight and because of these working so well. I haven't even had to use my ski pants. I wear these over my Sorel -40 boots that have buckle near the ankle strapped in my Tubbs Edge snow shoes. My only gripe with these and it's a minor one is the tiny hook at the bottom surrounded by velcro. It takes a little adjusting to get hooked right and seal around the velcro. Still. I haven't noticed any malfunction and even forget I'm wearing them. -

Read More I bought these last minute for work since I was going to be spending a couple days in deep snow. I'm a huge fan of Black Diamond's products and these are no exception. They can take a beating, they stay in place over your boot and keep even the lightest snow out. They are a lot more expensive than most gaiters but they're worth every penny. I will say to be careful and size them correctly, I purchased a small and they are extremely tight, yet still comfortable. I really have no complaints about them at all. -

Read More I've had these or ones like these for about 10 years. The only difference between mine and these are that mine are black with white lettering only. I've used them winter and spring hiking through the mountains, hunting in wet weather, etc... They've never failed me until the past year or two. A hole has finally developed, but I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of them. Even though they are "GoreTex" they're not really breathable. My feet and ankles do get hotter in them than without. But I'd rather have some clamminess than full on getting wet. Upon researching a new pair, I cringe at the prices, but I guess you get what you pay for. Most of the other's I've looked at seem to have poor durability. I'll have to spring for another pair of these BDs. -

Read More I've been using these for about a year doing general mountain stuff. These gaiters have steel hooks that you're supposed to fasten to your shoelace. The underside of these hooks (the parts that touch the lace) have sharp edges. Once I came home from an outing and found that these gaiters had almost shredded my boot lace. I tried to fix this problem with a file but failed. I resorted to placing duct tape on the hooks, but ultimately I've stopped using the hooks altogether. I broke a strap yesterday by simply pulling on it. They generally fit my legs but they'll usually slouch every couple hours of hard slogging. This is annoying. They're not breathable enough. When I'm working hard my legs get sweaty beyond mortal comprehension. All of this condensation seems to stay in the gaiter and run off into my boot.
Read More I've tried gaiters from every brand REI carries or has carried, and these are the best fitting, toughest I've found. Fit-wise, I like the precision and range of the top elastic drawcord, and also the gaiters'' ability to accomodate a muscular calf and/or broad boot upper. The under-boot straps actually last the life of the gaiter, which I haven't seen in any other product. The Achilles heel of this model is that the area of the gaiter at the top of the under-boot strap on the inside (where the ankles can brush past either each other or the opposing snowshoe wears thin, to the point of compromising the anchoring of the strap. I now fix this by impregnating the vulnerable area with Seam Grip before putting the gaiters into service. This adds the necessary abrasion resistance to that area.
