Read More As I read in a couple of reviews, these Nikwax boot products are a bit of hassle to apply. I've been through assorted bottles of the cleaning gel, leather conditioner, and aqueous wax. The little plastic scrubber may be gone entirely before you finish a bottle, but the remaining pad still works to get the stuff on the boots. And you have to co-ordinate squeezing the bottle and applying pressure with the applicator onto the boot to get the stuff to come out. I always use a toothbrush on my boots under a trickle of running water to "pre-clean." Since I tried to re-sole some Italian boots once, and the new soles refused to bond, I've not dared use any products containing oil of any kind on my boots! Nikwax can sometimes be gotten cheaper on Amazon than the similar Zamberlan products. -

Read More Another review says this product is great with suede, and it probably would be fine with a smooth surface. But not for hiking boots. With the boots' rough contours, the applicator came off on the first boot, and much of the liquid spilled. I put the applicator back on and then tried to be gentle. By the time I finished the one pair of boots, the applicator was too shot to be used again. -

Read More The cleaning gel worked wonders on my shoes! I have a pair of soft suede Eccos that I love and I was VERY apprehensive about using a cleaner. I was afraid it might leave spots or make the fabric less soft. After looking at many products and reading many reviews, I decided to try Nikwax's Footwear Cleaning Gel. I am so happy - it has made my shoes look nearly brand new again! I have taken these shoes hiking on mountains and sloshed with them through the rain (which you are not supposed to do with suede shoes), and now they look as if I bought them a week ago. I am very happy with this product.
Read More While it might not get every spot out it does the trick to make your shoes and boots look near new. I found the best way to apply it is to dab it all over the the shoe and then use a nylon bristle brush to work it in. It was a bit of a hassle to get a new bottle started but after trying this method it took no time and no hassle to clean a pair of hiking shoes. there are still a few marks and such on them but all the dirt is gone and they look much better.
