Rated 5 out of 5 by from MH Rice & Chicken When my son and I go backpacking, this is our 'go to' dinner. When it's cold, I add a bit more water to make a soup. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly great taste I was unsure about freeze dried foods on the first hike that I ever took. Fortunately, I took this Mountain House Rice and Chicken....and was amazed. It is very, VERY good and there is plenty in the bag. My 9 year old son and I split it when in camp at night. He really likes it as well. If you like chicken, rice, and vegetables, you can't go wrong with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All-around good choice My main focus is keeping emergency pantries at home and office. This entree can serve as a quick shot of comfort food or as part of a full meal. Either way it provides two satisfying portions so this is one I'll keep in stock. This entree is vaccuum packed so it won't become a food balloon at high altitudes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tasty and Filling As others have said, this is definitely rice and chicken, in that order. The majority of the meal is rice with some chicken thrown in for flavor. That said, rice is a filling and easily digestable food and I've always found rice to be a good choice when I need something to fill me up and keep me going, so I don't think it's a bad thing that this meal leans hevily on the rice. Overall, the flavor is more bouillon cube than fresh chicken (which I think is why others have noted the saltiness), but one can't really expect a freeze-dried meal to taste like fresh food. As these meals go I found it quite good. As far as the pimientos, I'm not terribly sure why Mountain House bothered other than for appearance; I certainly couldn't taste them, but at least they didn't detract from anything either. With a bit more chicken and a bit less bouillon powder this might be a 5-star meal, but even at 4-stars it's pretty good.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tasty but REALLY skimps on Chicken Many of the other reviews are spot on. What I found to be most disappointing was the near lack of chicken. It's pretty much a giant mound of flavored rice with a few unassuming specks of chicken thrown in. On a positive note, at least the rice is tasty. I would recommend passing on this one and going with some favorites such as the Beef Stroganoff, which has good portions of beef, and the Pasta Primavera. Happy eating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Salty but one of the better meals It has been said in other reviews. This meal is salty, but I, my wife and son enjoyed it. We have been doing weekend trips and trying out a few meals at a time. This is our favorite right now. And as others have said it is salty, but good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Chicken *favored* RICE I've eaten many Mountain House meals and this one is terrible. Imagine cheap chicken and rice soup. Then add a lot more rice. Then remove some of the water. Voila, you have this meal. It's basically 95% rice, with those small pieces of chicken that float around all too infrequently. Even the taste is pretty dull.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Named Apprpriately, for sure. It's definitely Rice and Chicken, not Chicken and Rice. This was our first freeze dried dinner and we were amazed at the taste. We'd had lunch earlier at the lodge at Mt. Charleston and were really disappointed that we ate there instead of having this! We could've bought five of these and eaten much better!
