I was looking for a multi-purpose soap for a recent trip to Europe where I needed to minimize the number of toiletry items due to TSA carry-restrictions. This soap was great for use as a face wash, body wash, and hand soap. It is also concentrated so a little goes a long way. I did not end up using it as a shampoo, but for other general soap needs it was great. Highly recommended for travel!

I was looking for an all-in-one product for a stint of long term travel. This works great as a laundry & body soap, but dries out my hair to a brittle, straw-like texture.(I don't have the room to pack leave in conditioner, so that makes it moot for me) I would not recommended brushing your teeth with it either, or using it as a face wash.

I have been using Dr. Bronner's pepermint soap for several years. My favorite use is for a bath or shower - it gives me a refreshing tingling. I have started to buy Dr. Bronner's in gallon jars and using the smaller containers for different uses. I am using the 4 ounce bottles for my 72 hour bugouut bags and in my toiletry bag. In a bugout bag it can be used for laundry soap, dish soap and personal hygiene and as Dr. Bronner says even as toothpaste! It does not produce a large amount of suds because it is a natural castile soap. It does do the job of cleaning. It has limited anti-bactirial capability - good old elbow grease has to be applied to ensure that you have removed bacteria from surfaces.

Simply the best soap ever. It's all natural, so no harsh chemicals for people with allergies or sensitive skin. It's fair trade, so you know folks aren't being exploited in the process of making this stuff. And it smells great. I use this soap for traveling and daily use. It's concentrated enough to wash pots and pans at a campground and can clean your laundry in a hotel sink. I was able to get an olive oil stain out of my favorite mountain hardware shorts by immediately handwashing them in the sink with warm water and dr. bronners. One person remarked on the lack of suds. I think it has an acceptable amount of suds, but if you want more suds, you'll likely have to use chemical soaps with sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. I'll stick with Bronners because the chemical stuff dries out my skin. Another person said it isn't a good mouthwash. People are thinking, "Why would you rinse your mouth with soap? Isn't that a punishment your mom used to do for saying a bad word?" Well, Dr, Bronner was quite the interesting fellow because he wrote on the bottle that it can be used as a toothpaste, and mouthwash. Well, it's all natural, so it won't hurt you any, but it is soap, so it's not going to taste as delicious as it smells. Raw peppermint oil (the fragrance) without any sweetener doesn't taste that great either. Another person posted that it dries out their hair. It's soap, so it will remove the oils from your hair. If you are washing your hair with soap every day, you might need to use some conditioner after. Bronners makes conditioner, but REI doesn't currently carry it. Word of warning, peppermint oils may cause slight burning sensation if applied to bicycle touring saddle sores. You may feel refreshed after the burn subsides, but the initial "burney feeling" may surprise you. This can be avoided if you use a different Bronners like the unscented lavender, citrus or unscented baby soap.

At home, on the trail or on the road. Dr. Bronner's Peppermint is the only soap I use. It's fresh and tingly but it can dry out your hair. While you're showering you can read the label and wonder what the heck this guy is talking about. His message is equal parts morally uplifting and utterly confusing.
  • It ain't campin' without Dr Bronners
... and it's gotta be peppermint. And yes you can use it for just about anything that needs cleaning.
  • it doesn't ACTUALLY do everything.

I have a bottle of this in a little ditty bag I throw in my luggage or car or backpack when I don't know when I'll be back home. It's not the best soap in the world; it is natural and gentle and a good enough soap for a variety of purposes in a pinch.
